Replying to Year off after highschool?

Has anyone done it? Do colleges look down on you for doing it? I'm pretty sure I want to go to college, but I also kind of want to give myself some time after high school, maybe save up some money and ride across the country for a few weeks, see what it's like. I'm going to be a junior in high school, so I'm not committed to this yet, probably won't even end up doing it. Just starting to think about after high school and laying out my options.
