What is going to happen when Vail Resorts takes over the world?

Sorry if this has been posted before, I don't read much.

I've had the epic pass the last 3 years. Good stuff if you're in Colorado, hell if you just visit it's worth it because daily lift tickets are a fuggin rip off in Colorado.

It's cool that they're adding all sorts of resorts, first it was Tahoe area, then they added some resorts like Afton in MN (weird huh?), then Canyons in SLC, and now I see you can ski Austria.

It's sick, price hasn't gone up (noticeably) since I first bought it 4 years ago.

But what's going to happen when they buy so many resorts that you can't NOT buy it? Maybe prices will get jacked up, idk

moving to SLC this year, I'm glad they have Canyons so if I never get around to buying a Utah season pass and on days I feel too cheap to buy a lift ticket, I can always ski canyons. Then still can ski Colorado too.

but it gets me worried sometimes too. Am I the only one?

I saw that Brighton still doesn't have their season pass price posted. I hope they have to try to compete at some point with the Epic Pass now that it's moved into Utah. Season passes in Utah are expensive, even though the daily passes are cheap (weird how that works out compared to CO).

I imagine I won't be the only one in SLC with the Epic Pass this year

If you guys heard of the comp put on by 4frnt at kirkwood called twisted sisters it couldn't go on this year for reasons I don't know by vail but they just wouldn't do it.

They have to compete with other cooperation's that own a lot of ski areas. Powder Alliance and Powdr are both doing something like what vail resorts has done for years. This season with my Park City and Snowbasin pass I can ski at like 15-20 different resorts.

and yes op i agree vail resorts is getting way to big in skiing, the amount of money they move and people they employ is comparable to a small country

There was talks about Vail buying a Scottish resort IIRC, although that was most likely just a rumour.

I went to Northstar for the first time in the 3 years I've been living out in Tahoe the other day.

On the way out, the sign said "Northstar, the way it should be."

I was pretty fucking disgusted.

Ok Vail is not completely bad for skiing. First of all Northstar kind of sucks dick besides the park so Vail can do whatever they want with it. Living in Tahoe and having the Tahoe local pass that works at Kirkwood, Heavenly, and Northstar is great! Super affordable and I get to ski all over the place. When Vail bought Kirkwood it was a big up roar. Kirkwood is a very small mountain that packs epic terrain with that local mountain feel. Honestly I cannot tell what Vail has done to ruin Kirkwood at all and I am not disgusted with it in any way. In fact, Kirkwood was in a financial hole and needed to be saved. Someone up top mentioned that Kirkwood didn't have the Twisted Sisters Comp this year because Vail, Perhaps this is true but they still hosted a Freeride World Tour stop. Maybe the organizers of the Twisted Sisters Comp needed to get into contact with Vail earlier to make it happen. I'm just speculating now but Vail is a big corporation with a bureaucracy that can't make things happen on the dime. This is one of the downfalls of corporations like this, but now Kirkwood has the money to give itself a much needed face lift.

Bail just bought mt Brighton here in Michigan. Saw the plans n looks like they are turning the entire hill into a park. Pretty stoked to see this bc Brighton is a fucking dump

To be fair Portes des Soleil is one of the largest ski areas in the world with thirteen resorts, ten parks and more runs than can be skied in a season (debatable) but still...

I think this is because of the distance of the major population center to the mountain. SLC has a large population center less than 30 minutes from the parking lots so they want to encourage people to come up for day trips. Where as CO/Summit County you have your major population center, Denver/Boulder almost well over an hour away. People are less likely to make the commitment to drive up there unless they've already committed to spending money on a seasons pass.

That being said it would be nice if Utah season passes would come down a bit in price. Or join up with multiple mountains. For the avid skier or snowboarder the epic pass is the best thing since metal edges.

in a much smaller example, Peak Resorts (who owns mt. snow) bought Mad River Mountain a few years back, and it hasnt changed a bit as far as atmosphere. If anything, its helped the place become a little more financially stable, keep ticket prices low, and have a banger park (one of the best in the midwest some say). With that being said, Vail is a much larger entity, so it could go either way. Guess it would come down to the attitudes of the resort operators.

yeah but their college pass was fucking stupid. blackout dates on saturdays?? i ended up getting the regular adult pass cuz i could only ski on the weekends and mainly saturdays. plus i heard they were upping the prices again next year.  im kinda considering the squaw/alpine pass this year because their college deal is unlimited with no black out dates and like a hundred bucks cheaper. can't deny n* had a sick park this year but idk if the price will be worth it or not yet

Dude, if you get caught "speeding" in a slow zone Vail takes your pass for two weeks and you have to take a safety class to get it back....... shits too gay bros.....

and also the safety zone at northstar is conveniently placed at the closest possible spot to the exit of the park. if you're not doin the pizza through there they dgaf about what gapers are crashing into each other, they just glue their eyes on you waiting for you to start straight lining

Yeah, people in CO get spoiled, every other resort in america if you're an "adult" out of college, you pay $800-$2000 for a ski pass. Everyone on here that bitches get college passes/youth passes for very cheap.
