Lodge food is ridiculously expensive and PB&J gets old after a while. What do you guys like to eat for lunch while you're skiing? I want some new ideas for what to eat this upcoming season.
If you can find a pocket on you big enough, bring a turkey sandwich on the mountain. Deli turkey has to be the best tasting food to eat while on mountain, and the lettuce gets so crispy from the cold it's so good. Only thing is that the bread will get squished, but that makes it easier to hold with gloves anyway.
Being a cheap ass is what has allowed me to go on 2-3 amazing ski trips every winter since I started college. I apologize if my judicious use of my small amounts of money offends you though.
I order subs the night before from a sub shop that is along the drive to the mountain, then the next day pick up the subs, buy a few drinks and water, and then you're set. I did that one time and it was worth it.
Usually I make a sandwich or have a nut mix in my pocket. Nuts are so good and easy to snack anywhere on the mountain. Also a lot of times I try to find some leftovers at the lodge.
i usually just pack a pbj or something but if i dont do that then me and my friends will just take the shuttle down to a 711 on the corner and get pizza or a chili dog for like a buck
haha one time i brought an applesauce pouch in my pocket and i overshot a jump, it exploded in my pocket and it was super sticky and chunky. it was nasty
I'm surprised no one has mentioned grazing. You keep your eyes peeled for little kids with way too much food on their plate and intercept before they hit the trash bin. This is a solid way to get french fries for free. Then you just microwave the can of chili you stashed in the snowbank at the start of the day and voila, you have chili fries.
In places where you put your whole tray, trash and all, on a rack instead of throwing your food away and putting the tray on a stack,(*cough* whistler) then you can just browse the racks for half-eaten anything.
Also, soup crackers are free if you "already bought soup." They go great with butter and honey or peanut butter, all available at the condiment station for free. Or with the brick of cheese and salami you stashed in your pocket.
Ketchup soup is another alternative, but it's kinda gross if you think about it too much.
i usually just eat a big breakfast then eat at the end of the day. when i was younger me and my buddy would go into the lodge and pretend to be bus boys and clear peoples trays. we'd scope out those young families whose kids hardly touched their chicken tenders and swoop...lunch
A staff pass and kids meals ment you could get a decent meal for 3 bucks. Water was free and a coffee like 50cents with a pass so you could a good meal for less then 4 bucks.
Chili is cheap as fuck to make. Make a huge pot of it and use vacuum sealing packs to make a bunch of single serving pouches. You can always keep two or three in the fridge and freeze the rest. When you're headed out, grab one and either put it in your pocket (the vacuum bags are more durable - within reason - than ziplocs, so they can take a hit) or bury it in the snow at a select tree and come back to it later. Find a microwave in the cafeteria or just eat that bitch cold. Tear a hole in the corner and pump it into your system like a pastry bag.
I too have a subway on the way to the mountain (Idaho Springs in CO), but they only open whenever the fuck they want so a lot of the time I cant get breakfast because the subway further down the road is always packed as fuck (gas station one)
When I was a punk ass teenager I would go into the lodge on the weekends when it's all busy and hit up the cafeteria for free. You grab a slice of pizza and eat that while in line for the burgers and fries, grab some fries and eat those while in line for pop, grab a medium pop and walk up to the cash register. Grab a chocolate bar and pay for the bar and the pop. You get the pizza and fries for free.
Not saying you all should do this, and if you do - can't be blaming me if you get caught, but it worked for me.
Oh! I totally forgot. Go get a bar of dark chocolate and a thing of crunchy peanut butter. Break the chocolate up an make a bunch of little chocolate peanut butter sammiches. Wrap those little bitches in foil and fill up yo pockets.
he'll have the last laugh when he is chowing down a delicious burger with fries and a tall beer while you eat condiments and imitate fucking busboys because mommy didn't give you a 10-spot that day
