Was also told the store would work with me on lightly-used demo UDi2 gruppo. If it's under $530 for the FD, RD, and shifters, I'm so interested. That's what they're going for online these days given that they're about to come out with the next-gen Ultegra.
Now to find Rotor 3d cranks, a p2m powermeter, some wheels, and then a cockpit set up I like. Still going to have about $1500 in expenses after dropping close to $2100. Woof.

.MASSHOLE.Will do. Frame is all but purchased. Been emailing with the shop, hoping I can get that UDi2 down to sub-$530 for the parts I need given that online and new is cheaper. I'd love to give them my business but I'm going to pinch pennies where I can so I can afford some nice rims.
Dream wheels are some ENVE 3.4s....But that $2700 price tag is not attractive when you can get Reynolds, Boyds, etc. for half that.

I've got my UDi2 on the way, Ritchey stem and Superlogic II bars, just waiting on wheels. Can't make up my mind there.
Could spend $750 on some Mavic's, DT Swiss, or Fulcrums. Bah.
So far I'm only in for ~$2700 for a bike that should run me $8000+ new.

evaroniAnyone have any experience with Canyon? Mountain or road. Going to get a new roadie by February and if the size I’m looking for is in stock I think I’m gonna go with them.
*TURBONERD*No personal experience, but I’ve heard lots of good things. The only thing I’d be wary about is your local shop refusing to work on them because of their sales model, but really if they aren’t willing to do that then their customer service isn’t great. You thinking Aeroad or Ultimate?

I signed up for their mailer in June to notify me when the one I want is in stock, still not in stock and I’m ready to pull the trigger, so we will see. I could get a tarmac instead.

foodisfunApparently there's a canyon shop now out here in carlsbad california so I'd love to check that out.
I moved out to san diego in June and lemme tell ya it's amazing to be able to ride in late december without extra layers or gloves. And so many more bike lanes and shared roads out here compared to where I came from. I gotta get in on some group rides though that's something I still haven't done

BoogieWomanI ride a 2017 Canyon CF SLX 9.0 Team. The bike is amazing, geometry is perfect for me, and for the price you get a lot of ‘bang for your buck’. However, the aftercare from Canyon direct isn’t so great. I had a crash after owning the bike 4 months and cracked the seat stay, Canyon wanted $1400 to replace the frame, and I’d have to strip the bike and ship the damanged frame back to them (to Germany, from UK), all at my cost. They said that because the bike was less than 12 months old, $1400 was a ‘special price’!! In the end I got the carbon repaired by a local ex-professional rider turned carbon engineer for $300 and the bike is good as new.
Not had any issues with shops refusing to service either. If you have a good local shop you can use that will service for you, then I’d certainly recommend a Canyon, but just hope nothing goes wrong, or it will cost you!

Question I have with the one piece stem/bar. How do you make adjustments on the drop/ reach?
BoogieWomanYou can’t. Obviously you can adjust the seat all you want, and I guess you could remove a spacer to drop the stem slightly, but that’s all. That’s why it’s important the bike geometry is right for you. I was lucky in that my bike was available as a rental for RCC members in Rapha stores, I’m not a member, but I went to my local clubhouse and tried it out before I bought it.

foodisfunWow those look great. And speaking of gravel... I love my aero Blue but now I want something almost the opposite not carbon that I can be tough on, commute to work with and go to the store and jump curbs, maybe some hardpack...
I'm in san diego so there's not much actual gravel or weather and I feel like I'd use it 70% pavement. So far been looking at bikes like the breezer radar, salsa journeyman, surly crosscheck and some others. Any other ideas or suggestions?
*TURBONERD*Focus Mares AX (aluminum version of what I posted as my gravel bike), although I don't know if there's a difference in clearance. Kona Jake the Snake might be a relatively affordable option as well. If you're looking for something fancier, there are tons of custom frame builders working with steel/aluminum/titanium. People talk shit about Specialized and Trek for their dealer practices, but a Trek Crockett or Checkpoint (the latter has more relaxed geometry and more tire clearance) or Specialized Crux would probably work well for you. I've also heard great things about the Cannondale Topstone. A final option, if you're willing to look at carbon, is the Thesis OB1. You're pretty spoiled for options in this segment - just do a little research and figure out what bike lines up most accurately with what you want, and you'll probably be happy. Wheelset and tires do make a huge difference here.
