Boots/shoes for winter?

Well growing up in sunny southern california, iv'e never had to own a pair of winter boots. I'm moving to mammoth in a couple weeks and my feet are gonna get a little frozen in vans skate shoes. Anyone have any recommendations? I need a boot to hike, fish and work in so its got to be built pretty well. + K for any help.

Forsake!!!!!

It was a kickstarter that was majorly backed and looks to have some pretty legit products. They're available for order and ship in october.

Multiple boots.  Also what work are you doing? A big difference between working as a lift operator standing in snow all day and working inside at a restaurant.
For a good winter work boot something from Baffin boots would be a Solid choice. Go with a removable liner. dries way faster. 
Your standard hiking boot will work for fine for walking around town.

DVS snow series. Not totally waterproof but good enough for snow. I've had a pair of Militias for the past 4 years (only worn in winter) so they're pretty durable.

Sorry to say Sorels have gone down hill ever since Columbia clothing bought them in 2000. They used to be the shit. Everyone in Minnesota had a pair of them.
Last pair I bought lasted about 3 months into the season then started falling apart. Lasted til the end of the season with the help of shoe goo and duck tape but wasn't pretty. Would not wasted another $120 on them. Maybe if its a occasional use boot not for entire season.

if you want some actual boots to play in the snow i wear lands end boots that have held up forever

I wear a pair basically all winter long. Super warm, super cozy, your feet will never get wet, they're easy to drive in, easy to take off and put on so getting into ski boots is quick, and they're usually a good price. Pretty much like wearing slippers in the snow. I'll admit it, not hard to see why the ladies rave over uggs... These gotta be the man's equivalent. Got the idea to start wearing them from and old Hoji's segment actually.

When I'm headed out to 'normal' places in public though I just wear some Colombia boots.

Timberland scramble. Really comfy and waterproof. If you dont like the colorway, they make some more basic, "earth-toney" designs
