So anyone who has read that book/knows the story of Marcus Luttrell shoudl know there is a movie coming out.

This movie was really fucking good. It should be required war movie viewing. Put it up there with Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down. Most of my theater was military people/families. It was just a feeling I haven't had in a theater in a long time.

I agree. Just got out of the movie. They did such a good job portraying everything. The best movie I have seen in a long time. If you read the book I highly recommend seeing the movie.

I found myself getting emotional when each person died, and felt my heart sink when the helo got shot down despite knowing it was coming all along. Peter Berg did a great job transforming Marcus' words into actions. The cliff scenes were ridiculous, the death scenes extremely well done, and most importantly, the relationship between the men was palpable. Part of me wanted to cheer when the Apaches and support came in at the end.

Anyone who didnt feel any emotion at the ending montage does not have a heart.

Great job, and thank you to our armed forces.

All the guy says is "Fuck Taliban" in an absolutely ridiculous accent.

THe book and the movie are very jingoistic because they romanticize the story miles more significant than it ever was. Plus, the whole time i felt that the director was trying to glorify the American Military.

I have full respect for those in the military, for instance my father and his father. Deception is far-reaching, morality is questioned, but the reality of war is a means to which those in desks seek to self-maximize and conquer.

Hey, continue the cycle of death and war that the US government has been stuck in for over 30 plus years.

hundreds of deaths daily are being orchestrated by a very profitable war machine.

The point I am trying to make here which is as relevant as it gets, is that the academia / conditioned entertainment individual mentality today and for the last decade is so detached from reality they talk and write as if debating the rules and reasoning of the war topic as if a cribbage game. They mention death and slaughter (potential or actual) as if a review of a new TV series.

TO THIS ONE QUESTION: If you, your family, and all of your friends were sitting at ground zero, do the circumstances created by others in that location warrant a lethal strike on ground zero?

I read the book and loved it.

Saw the movie last night and thought it was really well done. Seemed quite accurate, especially since Marcus had a lot of say in how they portrayed the story. Pretty sad, but did a great job showing the service seal team ten did to their country. I thought it was one of the first good movies that give a good impression of how the war in Afghanistan was w/o any of the political BS.

Also it was really intense. The fighting scene was nuts. Definitely a must see.

My dad and I are going to go see that this afternoon, its kind of cool because my dad (a photographer) covered Steven Reich, the helicopter pilot's funeral.

I really enjoyed it but like any big budget movie it was a little overly theatrical at times.

Got to see it at a charity type even on the 4th. I really enjoyed it but that one guy had the corniest lines aka "I am the reaper"

I got to see it about 2 months ago here at Florida State and it was an absolutely incredible movie. I'd put it up there near the top of the list of the best films of 2014, and as one of the greatest war movies of all time. When you go, definitely bring some tissues, it will break you down.

I've seen it 3 or 4 times already. It's incredible but hard to watch sometimes because of the gore and how the plot unfolds. I'd definitely give it a view

I have witnessed death first hand, just as those in the military have or those being obliterated by a hell fire missle or raided and killed by JSOC or those in east timor massacred by the Philippine army armed by the us gov. War is disgusting. Sadly the war on terror is a never ending war and those effected by the us gov attrocites will subsequently turn to jihad. This isn't even in declared war zones. I have seen the damage and the lifes that have been obliterated in Yeman, just as the family members that lost someone in the military.

Just saw it tonight. Best movie I've seen in the theater in a long time, and my favorite war movie, period. Yeah, a couple of cheesy lines, but for me, they didn't overshadow the overall grittiness and reality that the movie achieved. I didn't think it glorified war in the least- not the typical Hollywood badassery and alpha male nonsense.

9/10, will watch again.

Just got back from it. Holy fuck that movie was intense/moving/awesome.

And it made my blood boil with hate for the Taliban. Fuck those people.

Saw this in theaters, bought it On Demand, and then just bought the blu ray when it came out...just because it's that good.

Very rarely (especially nowadays), does a movie have that much heaviness to it.

All of the actors were badass too. I usually get a kick out of Marky Mark in all of his movies because he plays his idiot self, but I actually took him seriously in this one and I thought he did a fantastic job. I've always liked Emile Hirsch and I felt super bad for his character, so he definitely did a great job. Never knew about Taylor Kitsch up until this movie, only heard that he was in that Friday Night Lights TV show, but damn he killed it. But I think the dude that stole the show was Ben Foster. Damn that dude is a great actor and supposedly he did the best at portraying his character out of anyone, according to everyone who knew him.

People should definitely go out and buy this movie. Super powerful and really well done.

I still wonder what exactly happened up there. I just always want to know why hiking up with the goat herders, waiting for the helicopter, and then cutting them loose wasn't an option. There has to be one crucial part of the event that Luttrell will never tell. Like, these were Seals. Still a great movie and story of what our soldiers go through, but that always gets to me.

Maybe I am missing something but how do you guys know if the book romanticized the story at all? Pretty sure Marcus Luttrell was the only one who actually saw the situation first hand?

Didn't read the book. But I saw the movie and was really interested about what happened and did a lot of research on it.

From what I remember the book and movie were far from what happened in terms of reality. However, you can't really reenact things like what happened to Mr. Luttrell and many people(military personnel, writers etc.) said it was almost as close to what happened as they could make it. I'm sure the general storyline and plot is very similar. There's probably things that happened that they simply could not put in the movie.

Movies are business. Directors and writers are gonna do whatever they can to make it appeal to as many people as possible. To respect Mr. Luttrell they probably tried to stay as consistent with the events as possible but again to appeal to the audience some things were probably added. What those things were, I don't know as it's been months since I've seen the movie or done any research on the movie.

Overall though, the movie was amazing. It definitely opened up my eyes about what our men and women do for us. During the montage at the end, my entire theater was on their feet saluting those who were killed in the mission. I thought that was the coolest thing. Definitely one of those proud to be an American moments.

I stopped watching it when they didn't think of handcuffing all three of them together and let them try to walk down to the town like that. it would have bought them several more hours.

I agree with what you guys are saying. There had to be something going on in this scenario...They're Navy SEALS, they can't be that dumb to just let those people run down to the village that quickly, especially knowing the repercussions.

Maybe they did think that the ridge they had to hike up to was a lot closer. Also, maybe they did just want to do the right thing in that exact moment and let them go. Who knows. Definitely seems silly though.

yeah add me to the list of people questioning the whole premise of the problem

even if they didn't bring the herders with them to the extraction point and THEN set them free as they left, they couldve let them free but with the zip ties still on their hands and feet. ta da, it will now take them forever to get down the mountain to tell anyone... im a genius

sort of fishy. but the book and movie were both super entertaining and i thought the movie was pretty well done. remove some of the corny lines that sound like theyre in a redneck's chain email ("i am the reaper" etc etc) and baby youve got a stew goin

Also I'm sorry but jumping off the like 3 cliffs they did, with no head protection. I don't know. Those guys brains would have been mush. I respect what our Armed Forces are doing, but the whole story seems far fetched. You take one good shot to the head and you're down for the count, I don't care how tough you are.

A question for everyone who saw it, how was the theatre after it ended. For me there was no clapping. Everyone sat in silence when they put the pictures up of the actual guys. Super humbling experience to be honest.

I absolutely hate when people clap at the end of a movie no matter what kind of movie it is.

The only way you should clap is if the actors/actress', director, producer, etc are at the movie theatre.
