i'm going to be a second year college student with no certain major. i'm interested in geology and physics. i really would love to live and work in the national park system across the USA, and i would love to know how to get involved. internships, jobs, any information would be greatly accepted here.
post up any awesome national parks you may have visited or wish to visit in the future!

fuck yeah for geo majors. but also i've heard from yellowstone and glacier employees its a decent job, but the real benefit is waking up in such an awesome place everyday. Most of those people work as cashiers in gift shops, selling park passes at the gates, etc. None of them were park rangers or any other glamorous job, but they all enjoy what they do.

One of my really good buddies has been working in Glacier for the last 3 or 4 summers and ski bumming down in Big Sky for the winters. Pretty rad set up he's got going on. He started working at the front desk of one of the hotels and has climbed that corporate latter into management. He seems to enjoy it a lot.

I used to work maintenance for the NPS in Cape Cod, Mass. for a summer. I was getting paid $17.77/hr for pretty easy work. got to do some demo on some outdated houses which was pretty sweet. PM me if you have any more questions.

I've heard great things about summer jobs with the NPS. I know that some of the parks in Alaska really try to lure summer seasonal hires because it's tough to get people to come to Alaska and work. I'll be looking into working in Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia NPs next summer since they're so close to home. I'm also looking into firefighting for the forest service.

Someone who works in Yellowstone was talking to me about maybe getting a summer job there. From what I heard it pays pretty well and the work is actually pretty fun. I would go on the websites and check it out and maybe that could be a good start.

i would be most interested in snagging a summer seasonal job next year in an alaskan park, namely denali, or in southern utah like zion or capitol reef. the websites i've found so far are very confusing.
if you do/have work(ed) in a national park, how did you first get your job? would a young geologist realistically be able to build a career within the national park service?
