So I have been keeping all of my photos from sandy to myself and decided to finally share them.
This past fall the east was devastated by Hurricane Sandy. On the backside of the storm, It dumped 3ft-4ft of snow in Canaan Valley, WV.
Canaan Valley before the storm
It stormed for two days and once it cleared, on halloween day, I jumped in my car and headed up to the Valley. Power was completely nocked out in the entire state so I went to the XC/touring area in the valley called Whitegrass.
Base of Allegheny front-1500'
Snow line- 2500'
Once reaching the top of the Allegheny front, there was 2'+ feet of snow. The roads where barley passable
A lot of snow
Cars abandoned and buried by snow plows
The storm lingered in the area for an other day dropping an additional 8"
Whale size snow drifts
Town of Davis: 3,200 feet, highest town in WV
buried with 2 1/2' feet of snow
The bank buried
Ghost town
I arrived at Whitegrass at about 8:30 AM. I was the first one there, and within minutes cars from all over the east coast started arriving. Every State from the NE was there and a crew from Jackson, WY was there to. There was 36" at the base of the mountain with no report from the top yet.
First tracks of the country
So I strapped in my snowshoe and started the climb. I was the first person so I was making the boot pack in this very very wet heavy snow. Talk about a work out. It took me 30 minutes to get to the mid station point in the picture above.
So, all of these guys started cursing by me in tele gear and AT gear, so I said, to hell with snowshoes, I am tele up. So I skied down in this super heavy snow. It was so deep, I could barley move
Hiking up
The small path up
Drifts around 3700'
I took my skis off and went in to this warming hut and stepping down the snow went up to my armpits. It was about 4' deep at this point
I then continued the hike up to the peak
4' feet and everything buried
We then skied around the knob on a small trial witch had 12 ft drifts

Then we skied down the pipe line it waste deep powder. It was sick.
THen down these large meadows.
My gopro some how managed to record in my book bag the entire day so I didn't get any good skiing footage. And when I was skiing, I didn't take to my photos because I had other priorities at the time.
So I skied down the whole mountain threw steep trees and meadows getting constant face shots, wile all being my first time on teles.

So all in all, this was the most epic storm I ever experienced in my life.I had the best time, and hope this all gets you stoked for this up coming winter!
