This summer I've recently gotten into whitewater kayaking but it seems there are so few people my age (16) doing it. Or at least in upstate New York... Are any of you guys into it at all?
Biggest hurtle for me is that I can't get enough runs in a day. I'm use to skiing where 20 runs a day is no big deal where boating you only get three runs tops a day.
Yep! I used to live in western NY where I was basically the only paddler around, but depending where you are in upstate there are some seriously awesome rivers up in and around the Daks, although most of them require quite a bit of skill before they should be messed with.
yo nigga i boat but i live in NC and have the almighty green river narrows in my back yard. it is such a progressive sport and one that you need to get into but the right way make sure you go with someone that knows what they are doing and in the great words of the guy who tought me (pat keller) "baby step young one"
kayaking it 60% contact with the boat with legs toes hips and knees and 40% arms allot of work is done with the bottom half of your body. so yes hips have allot to do with it but i used them clearly once in that video on the top drop. that move is call a stomp it makes the nose of the boat hit and break the surface of the water and then U out makes the landing softer make me less sore from a soiled impact to the spine.
They freaking kill it. I've driven/hiked past some of those drops and especially the Tumwater section of the Wenatchee and would never consider running some of them, especially at the water levels in the video. So gnar.
I tried whitewater in a canoe. The boat went underwater after two waves. I thought it was still super fun, and i want to try whitewater kayaking. I too live in upstate NY.
Anyway I'm looking to get a new boat. I'm in MA and usually take my current boat out to the surf and play around in 3-8 ft waves or swells. I also go up to Maine and surf a bunch in some relatively mellow waves and holes. I had a wave sport zg and I'm looking to upgrade. I've been looking into the dagger jitsu just because of the extra volume in the bow but I'm not sure it would be the best for the ocean. Also considering the Karma because it might be better in the ocean. Any suggestions? Play boat, sea kayak or creek boat? Just thought I'd ask NS before dropping a bunch on a boat.
I have yet to really get into whitewater, but my dad used to be super big into it. He still has some of his old canvas wildwater boats lying around. I would like to learn my eskimo roll before I really get into it, doing a wet exit seems like a pain.
iv had a player and a creaker on the ocean the player while fun you will get beat the shit out of every now and then and the creeker is just not that fun so id go ocean boat
hard core waters. purchase a canoe. never a wrong choice. practice holding your breath so important sell your kayak and buy a playstation much more fun make life enjoyable.
threads because i've wanted to get into this. big hurdle for me is getting gear and lessons, next hurdle is storage of gear. other than that usnwc is only about 10 min away
it's like kayaking with a lift, laps on laps on laps. sure it's not the same as a river but is convenient as hell
I've been scoping out this creek for a few ssumers and I think this is the year im gonna pull the trigger and go for it.
I live a mile away from the biggest kayak shop in the area and I think I might just rent one for a day with a couple of buddies and go and shred down this river/creek should be a good time
get a playboat! you can surf it in the river as well as in the ocean. If you're just a beginner your zg should be fine. I doubt you need a jitsu. That's the brand new top of the line model for advanced playboaters. You could definitely find something more forgiving for a beginner that would still allow you to surf and stuff. Honestly your ZG should be just fine. Def not a jitsu lol.
Damn... After watching those videos it got me stoked for summer, I wanna try this anyone who lives in the Leavenworth/Wenatchee are know the best spots?
agh fuck i go there about 4 times a year dope as fuck and if you have never swam the entire nature side you must do it, just jump in from the top and just act like you lost your boat when the guides look at you funny hahahah but keep your ass up after the drops and stay in the middle or you get a ass full of rock
