I'm assuming its a 4wd system over a RWD that is making the difference. I don't know trucks, but I do know that RWD pickups don't have much weight over the back end and therefor don't have a lot of torque.

you can tell the truck is in RWD so if it was set into AWD it would potentially be different

why wouldn't the chevy be in 4wd...? and if it's a rwd truck then he's an idiot for getting a duramax in a rwd truck unless they don't make that in which case I'm an idiot.
Also, the TDI had a V10...

Duramax- 400hp, 765lb torque

well thats bullshit 4WD would make the tires spin less and you can tell because it shows the front tires for a bit and netiher are spinning
