So I went and saw the conjuring tonight. It was the best scary movie I have seen in a loooong time!! I applaud the makers of this film it really is awesome! There is no swearing, sex, or drugs, it gets it's R rating just because it is so scary! Anyways if you haven't seen it yet definitely go see it and if you have post what you thought of the movie!

I saw it tonight and honestly thought it was way overhyped. There was maybe one or two scenes that made me jump before the climax of the movie, and the climax is like a two minute run of the mill exorcism, then its over. Evil dead, insidious, saw, the original exorcism are all much scarier in my opinion. I went into this movie thinking I'd never watch a scary movie again and came out feeling the need to watch another to fill the void this movie left me

Insidious was the so disgustingly unscary and overhyped. I was actually so confused when I watched it because everyone I knew said it was the scariest thing they ever saw.

In short, I hardly watch scary movies, but I know your taste in scary movies is awful.

My girl went and saw it last night and told me it was scary but not that good.She said the plot was shitty and the character development was wack.I will watch it wen it comes out on video

I've gotta agree with you that insidious wasn't scary, but then again, what's the deal with scary films? I've never liked them, I've never been scared, I mean very slightly, but nothing that actually concerns me. It's easy as shit to make a scary film, although one that's still legal might be harder. So I just don't get the appeal, especially when they're all very poorly made.

All scary movies have basically the exact same storyline (exorcisms, ghost, murderer, disease, ect). Only time I think anyone should want to watch one is when there are females accompanying them.

Humans actually go to scary movies in order to feel safer in life. You go, sit down, you're immersed in the world of the movie and you face fear directly. Then, at the end, you stand up and you leave the theatre and that movie and the fear behind. Yeah some scary movies stick with you, but humans psychologically desire to see movies in order for them to be able to stand up and walk away from them knowing they are safe. I don't like anything about scary movies but I go watch them all the time. Not sure why. It's a weird thing like why we would intentionally scare ourselves - but apparently the theory stated above is quite popular.

I feel like the more you watch scary movies, the more immune you become. They are hard to storyboard, so ideas are being recycled (like Paranormal Activity 1, 2, 3, 4, 5..) It is kind of a modern/post-modernist idea that is very prevalent in movies lately..

I'm too lazy to find any sort of link or anything but you can see a pattern in how the villains/scary shit in horror movies reflects popular fears of the time period. It's pretty interesting - people basically go to horror movies to see their fears about their lives embodied in another form and, and then don't have to think about them.

Do not listen to OP. This film was average, completely average. The entire film relied on pop-ups and gross out scare scenes to get your heart pumping. I cannot believe I wasted my money to go see it. However, I have seen a good scary movie recently that blows The Conjuring out of the water. Sinister. If you are looking for actual scares and restlessness, watch Sinister.

These are facts.

Haven't seen the conjuring but agree completely about sinister. It's a rare scary movie that is actually entertaining, instead of just a sequence of jump scares like most scary movies.

 Still probably gonna see the conjuring just to see how much it is over hyped though
