I feel like high school is fucking passing me by.

So I'm in my junior (going into senior) summer. I used to be (middle school, 9th grade) really annoying and awkward. Faggish indeed. Then I became normal(ish) after a couple of girlfriends. I never drank or even thought of drugs.

But like a little less than a year ago, I decided that high school was passing me up so I decided to drink at a couple parties. Lame-ass parties (I'm not friends with the coolest crowd).

Fast forward to now. Now I really feel the desire to live a normal high school life, ya feel? I drink and I've smoked weed. I have so many friends; I hang out with people every single day-- but they suck. They hold me back. As I've changed, I've drifted from my friends. I can't relate to anyone anymore, and I feel totally alone. They aren't adventurous and don't want to take HS for what it's worth. They don't want to make awesome memories or have crazy stories or go get high in sweet places or do hoodrat shit. I have only a handful who drink and a couple who smoke occasionally.

Unfortunately, the people I would relate to now, are already in their own cliques and bullshit. The people that want to live life like there's no tomorrow. That's me!!! Im outgoing and shit BUT... im sure everyone remembers me as that fucking awkward kid (how do i befriend them?) But I feel like I'm held back by my friends and life is passing me by. What do I do!

make friends with kids who share similar interests as you, for example try making friends with other skiers/snowboarders at your local mtn. i just finished HS and found that I couldn't relate with a lot of kids in my school just because they lacked drive and adventure, or because they cared too much about their social status in HS (lol). you'll find that the friends you make at places like your local mtn, skatepark, local dirtjumps, etc will be friendships that are a lot stronger and longer lasting than the the friendships you've made with HS kids simply for the reason that you have see them everyday.

You think that getting trashed in a cool place is an adventure?

I think I do some of the coolest shit I can with the best friends that anyone could have, guess what? We're never trashed. Yesterday we got lost in the woods after diving a 45ft cliff, every one of us was beat up, but we had a hell of a time. If you want to make memories, don't make them getting fucked up and stumbling around. You can do that when you don't have the time or the capabilities to do all of the crazy shit you want to do. It's not all about partying man.

Rethink what you want to be in highschool, not what you want highschool to be.

Very true. and since you already smoke all the time, and weed is the gateway drug, you should be on the right track! Just keep smoking weed and getting drunk and eventually you'll find somebody with some heroin; it's the natural progression of things. And once you do heroin for the first time all the popular kids will know you're cool and will want to chill with you. Then you can sit around all the time with them and do enough heroin to feel like someone removed all the bones from your body, so that when you're older you can tell your kids all the fun times you had in high school slumped over on a couch smacked out on heroin, and generally living life to the fullest! then your kids will admire and respect you always.

but on the serious, you're still in high school and obviously young and stupid and don't know this yet, but not getting blackout drunk every other night and throwing up into your friend's parent's urns doesn't mean that high school, or life, is passing you by.

its fine. i went to a private boarding high school, so my high school experience wasnt quite like the fast times at ridgemont high either. that disappointed me and actually made assimilating into the collegiate social life more difficult for me, but not for long. now im going into my junior year, and i do lots of hoodrat shit with my hoodrat friends like stealing stop signs and herban skiing. if you dont have those kinds experiences right now, sure enough there will be time for them somewhere else down the road. if life was a video game, remember that you are still on the tutorial level. the real thing hasnt even begun yet. the other kids who you aspire to hang out with are also at the very beginning of their social development, so dont think you wont be able to catch up because you will. you have more time than you can physically comprehend to catch up.

my advice to you is that if you do whatever you can to improve the lives of the people around you, it WILL make your life better.

honestly if you want to break into that party social group but feel weird, hit up one of the kids and be like hey man lets get fucked up together, ill bring a handle/smoke you up. A kid that likes to get fucked up wont turn down free alchohal/weed. and if you guys chill theyll prolly end up likeing you. if you are as cool as you say

kid's a junior in college, not high school. And, regardless, what a stupid thing to say. I know a kid in high school who drove drunk once and ended up hitting a cop car on the side of the highway and the cop ended up dying. Ask him if what he did in high school mattered at all.

yup high school went by so fucking fast. just have as much fun as possible. get some friends and make adventures happen. some of the best parties i went to in high school were small ones with like 10 people or less. just find the people you want to be friends with and hang out with them.

High school really isn't that big of a deal. I drank probably once all 4 years, and smoked a couple times just out of curiosity. That wasn't the highlight of my high school at all however. I had friends from every cliche and just did fun shit. If I wanted to ski, i had some good friends to ski with. If I wanted to waterski/wakeboard I had friends for that too. I pretty much only had one friend that i would do everything with. Sometimes me and a group of friends would just go out on an adventure and get lost somewhere in the middle of nowhere and have a blast. The point is all of the fun activities i did were so much more fun than partying. Quit caring what people think and just live your live.

My story was different tho, I started getting faded in the 8th grade with three of my best friends, and coming from a small town up in the hills you are pretty much ostracized if you don't blaze tough and learn to kill an 18er by you junior year... But by my senior year I was fucking tired of that life style already and did running start and got the fuck from around all those kids, I started looking around an realizing its a garbage lifestyle to live in HS, most of those "popular" "cool" kids would do anything to save their own face and/or a few bucks for another case of beer or a fat sack. My real friends stuck wot me and we still kick it a lot I just don't go hang out with te sketchy potheads I used to be "tight" with and don't go to the big high school parties very often anymore.
But hell man getting fucked up with some people you enjoy being around is a good time, just remember that it's not really about what you are doing but who you are doing it with that makes it memorable.

Pretty much this. I haven't contacted any of my friends from high school in two years and hated my high school years. What most people say that high school is the best time of your life is bullshit. I'm making my memories now after high school. The ski bum life style helps out with that a ton.

Just find people you can hold a solid conversation with. Bottom line is, if you enjoy someones company, then it doesn't matter what you're doing with those homies. I hated drinking with the kids from my school because those kids weren't enjoyable company.

This is why I hate most of the people at my school. I have so many more friends outside of my school (through skiing) and outside of my own grade, because I'm going into my sophomore year in high school next year.

And okay, that's all well and good until you start stealing stop signs as a means to being more outgoing and potentially cause accidents that could seriously injure or kill someone. I don't get why you're fighting me on this? Do you really think stealing stop signs is a cool thing to do?

Everyone has their own version of what is a crazy time. Finding a crazy place to smoke is a legit goal to have to form an adventure. No stumbling involved. Whether it is a chair lift on a powder day or a vista on the peak of a hike in the summer, a joint seals the deal.

I don't NEED to get fucked up! It's just that my friends aren't down for anything awesome!!! Yeah I enjoy hooping or playing COD but I want to do something awesome and memorable and insane like "I can't believe we did that". But they won't go explore abandoned buildings or go for hikes or do fucking anything that MIGHT have a negative consequence.


In other words, I hang out with total pussies.

In college I'll start off as my new person and make the friends I really wanna make. My past self fucked my new self over haha.

Highschool is pretty fun, but I'd say college is by far 1000x more fun. I'd say don't worry about it, just live it out. Thinking you NEED to drink or NEED to smoke is stupid, I just did that shit with my friends and that was it. We didn't "try" or "need" to do it, we just did it.

highschoolers spend all their time trying to be just like everyone else.
then you go to uni/college and there is a fuck ton of people who are ACTUALLY like you.

plus, 10 years later, i think about people from highschool who i thought were the coolest cats, or the chicks i would have done anything to bang. now, their all garbage men or swamp donkeys. you waste so much time and effort trying to impress people that in the long run will have absolutely no impact on your life.

what goes around is all around julian.

It's a journey, but once you find the right people it'll be super sick, and eventually you'll move on from those people. That's life I guess. Like some of the friends I do the craziest shit with, I don't actually see that often, making it so much more memorable.

This is somewhat true for most people I have found.

I have about 5-6 good friends from high school I still see a couple times a year. Helped my home town is only 6hrs away from school, i'd go back on random weekends just to party.

But I have a ton of friends from high school that I've talked to maybe once or twice in 6 years, friends I hung out with at school or at parties, whatever. You definitely lose a lot of friends from high school so is very true that you make more "real" friends in college. Either way, don't sweat too hard about your HS friends because I know plenty of kids who don't even communicate with their best friends from HS, let alone care what they think/say.

To be honest I'm feeling the same way right now. I mean, I'm a bit younger than you (sophomore). I recently got a dirtbike just to let loose and have a good time with my friends that already have them.

I would say, find kids that you enjoy hanging out with you. Don't be someone you're not. Just go with the flow and hang back. Find what makes you happy and stick with it. Hope you have some luck with your problems.
