My local mountain, who is owned and operated under ORDA, is selling a Ski 3 season pass next year and I was wondering what the park is like, because until now, I had a season pass that gave me access to skiing at Gore and Whiteface. So is the park and/or the rest of the mountain good or bad?
The park at belleyre is weak man.. overall I like it there though. Lots of diamonds at the top. Also lots of traversing.. few glades that are fun on a powder day
I skied Bel from the age of 4 to 17. The park isn't worth mentioning. Hunter has a surprisingly good park, but the people make it insufferable. All the workers at Bel are supper laid back (for New York) and the terrain is pretty fun. If you get to know the mountain you can have a lot of fun, but I might be a little nostalgic.
I would probably avoid bel if you wanna ride park. There were many years where the park opened in the middle of Janurary and some years where it never opened up at all. There is always a rail garden at the bottom of Lower Wanatuska.
If you want to ski trees, then give it a look.
-The Cathedral Brook and Glen trails are fun when the Cat is running (don't hike out to Cathedral brook if the cat isn't running. Just cut off of roaring brook and hike a little. The traverse from the top of the super chief sucks). Kinda steep and usually untouched the after or of a storm.
-The trees between Upper Belleayre Run and upper Wanatuska are awesome. If you get first tracks of the season of the year, you can get the best tracks on the mountain of the year. My favorite on run on that side of the mountain. Steep and tight
-Any of the trees between Dot Nebel and Deer run will be fun. There are lots of cliffs to be found through there, but be careful. Most of that terrain is flat and too thick to ski. Stay near the tracks.
-The lift line is the trail you should probably poach. Everyone does it and ski patrol will never bother you. Start at the top from the Seneca entrance. Duck the ropes and make your choice. You can ski down the middle, drop the cliff skiers right or the two part cliff on the skiers left. Just scout it out on the lift ride up.
