What Laptop are you guys rocking?

I got my sony Vaio S series 15 laptop about a month ago and I'm still absolutely loving the thing. It's fast, light and looks good for the eyes too. Very nice screen resolution and backlit chiclet keyboard.

The reason i think you can't find any is it a weird combo of parts. That is a pretty slow CPU and it does not have a dedicated gpu. The only good thing really is the massive ssd and reasonable amount of ram. I think you may be better off looking for faster CPU and a gpu the same amount of ram and a smaller ssd. The ssd is only usefull for things your working on so its pointless having one that big. You would be better off spending more on other components and getting a big external hdd for storage. Just my opinion but I think that CPU would be quite slow but it depends what you plan to do with the laptop.

mainly looking for decent ssd, with either another hdd or get an external - windows 7 preferably + not terribly expensive

Well If you will go for a smaller ssd you can get something much more powerful then the mac book air. You will be able to get a quad core instead of dual and a gpu. As I say you don't need a huge ssd like that its a bit of a waste and just makes things expensive. If you go for 128gb and then a 1tb external you could get something very good for 1600

this is what I was looking at and for 8gb of ram and 500gb ssd it's $1,900 also has a worse integrated graphics and it comes with pre loaded b.s. and I don't care for windows 8 really.

Have a look on newegg there are some good deals there. Look at a smaller ssd as I said above you do not new one that big, it's just going to put the cost right up. I would look for an i7 CPU, a nvidia 600 series gpu, 8gb ram with room to expand and if you really want a ssd no bigger the 256gb. Depending what you do on it I would say don't go smaller the 15in screen unless you an on hooking up a monitor to work with. I would think you can get that for less then 1600 but it will give much more power then the mac book air you were looking at. Also windows 7 will keep the price down so that a bonus

I payed 1850 euro's for my MacBook in 2011
I just got an offer of 1500 euros for it.

So I've had it for two years and effectively only spend 350 euros.
Less then 50 cents a day for a rather good notebook that never let me down and has a nice design.

Such a retarded decision.

It will be sold, but not today, I could lie and tell you that I have already sold it but I prefer to stay honest.
I just wanted to see how much I could sell it for and that offer rolled in after roughly 20min on a site.

On a related note, I helped a friend sell his 17-inch pro a few weeks ago and his loss over roughly 2,5 years was just 400 something euro.

Mac's keep their value very well, simple fact.

You also receive that brand name when reselling, like ^ said. Ive sold two different MBPs to upgrade, the first one i believe i came out 50% of my original price after 3 years and the second i got 75% of original price after 2 years and the computer I have now could sell for 70-80% i paid and its 2 years old.

Asus actually makes quality stock laptops for cheap if your only looking for speed and battery life. The graphics cards always suck though but I don't bother to change it.

Specs: 2.8ghz intel core i7 processor, 3.3ghz on high performance mode. 16gb of ram which is kind of overkill but now I can watch my videos prerender and be on Youtube/NS at the same time. also somewhere around 600gb internal storage

AAE, Sony Vegas, C4d, and boujou all run flawlessly on it. Takes me like 3 minutes to render a video <10 mins on after effects if i'm not using MBL. the computer does pretty much anything you could ask for for video editing, and was only $700

I don't really play games anymore just ssd's are fast and 8gb of ram should be pretty good for a while .... processors are almost never the bottleneck for things unless you're doing some hardcore shit .. just want it to be pretty quick and build up a good music library might get some movies and i'll probably get libre office for any work I have to do
