Punx vs filthy rich

I say go for the filthy riches. If you are looking for a playful ski and great quality FR's are what you want

Probably go for Filthy Rich I've only heard good things about them, whereas the Atomic Punx can have durability issues. The FR's also have nice thick edges so they should be pretty good on ice, but if you do a ton of rails then obviously the edges will get worn down and they won't be so great for ice, but that will happen on any ski.

Just curious were are you planning on buying the FR's from? I've looked a lot but can't find any place in AUS/NZ which sells ON3P skis.

)i have not had problems with my punx in terms of durability so you should not make your decision based on this. And thicker edges do not mean that the fr will carve better. Race skis have thin edges. Those edges will hold up longer on rails though. So you are really deciding whether you are willing to spend more money to get the better quality filther rich (though not that much better in my opinion) or the punx.

They will carve similar since next years punx will be stiffer and the frs are kind of stiff underfoot, and they will both have rocker though the filthy rich will have slightly more rocker.

Sparknotes:

Filthy Rich: 600$ thick edges (not much difference in carving, race skis have thin edges), more rocker, more durable
Punx: 450$ slightly less durable, a little rocker

so with the FR's, will they be worse on ice as they have more rocker or not? also, which one is softer out of the FR and the 2012/13 punx?

The fr added rocker will make it carve less well then the new punx. The new punx are stiffer then last year both torisipnally and laterally so I found they hol an edge very well. The punx are also narrower so they go from edge to edge much faster then the fr. For you in au I would think the punx would be a much better choice of ski.

i think the 12/13 punx would be softer, but the rocker on the fr would make for easy butters yet carving may not be as good.

Owning a pair of both Atomics and ON3Ps, I can say a few things:

Atomic is well known for their skis having ridiculous edge hold. I can vouch for that. It's a little crazy how well they can hold on. They in turn tend to be stiffer.

ON3P makes skis that are super fun and are build like a tank. I cannot make any markings in my base, and the edges are really nice. 

Since you already have a grasp on the Punx, you know a little bit about them. Skis generally don't tend to change that much year-to-year. I'm a real big fan of the durability and overall performance of ON3P products, so I would say go for those. Try something new.

Yea, ice skiing and park don't really mix unless you NEVER ride rails and boxes etc.  If you just stay on jumps that's going to be okay.  Main thing for icy stuff is the tune.  You need the best hand tuning to ski icy stuff well.  Imagine an ice skate with an untrue blade.  You won't be a very good skater with that. Machine tunes suck for total trueness.

Rails DESTROY any edge hold capability. Why not keep your old Punx for rails and buy a pair of FR for jump/pipe and all mountain cruising? I hear they carve like a short GS ski.
