I'm about to get up again tomorrow morning at ~5 to hit the lake and I'm stoked about it. I love the dawn, it's always so cool, calm and quiet. It's easily my favorite time of the day in the summer. You even get to see shit like this:

I'm also trying my damndest to plan a Quabbin Reservoir overnight trip with a group of friends for later in the summer but it's freakin' hard to do when everybody has different schedules. I HAVE to get back there to fish with the Bald Eagles again! The ability to sight fish in 30+ft of water is pretty unique and awesome, and the potential is always there for a record fish.

Other than that its hitting the usual spots for quickies when my schedule and this ridiculous heat allow it.

Hell ya haha. But it got cancelled. We got about 15 inches of snow in the last 2 days so there is about a foot of water under the snow. Rescheduled during finals week... during one of my finals damnit

HOLY FUCK, I got so much fishing shit for Christmas, I'm so happy! I just got a brand new rod and a brand new reel and I'm so stoked. It looks really nice, and I can't wait to get out and try it next spring. Also got a ton of new lures (including those super expensive "Live Target" topwaters), and a bunch of braid. Stoked!

I know a lot of you guys use kayaks but i'm sure you could hook it up to a small vexilar type battery or something.

I'm really interested in their rods but have seen a few bad reviews regarding their build quality. Besides those issues sounds like they are one of the most sensitive rods ever made for not a bad price.

Finally got out for my first time on Saturday. Went to a stocked lake a few minutes from my house with no expectations.

The lake has selective gear restrictions so no Powerbait, artificial bait, treble hooks, or barbed hooks. After swapping over a bunch of hooks it was nice to get out and make some casts.

I'll hopefully get my first fish of the season soon.

Closed down the office at 11am on Friday to hit up a local lake; spent more of my time unfucking my coworker's reel than actually fishing.

Well, there's always big-ass swimbaits and huge frogs. You never know though! Lots of big fish get caught on small gear

Kind of funny- I caught my personal best lmb (7+) on a stupid rooster tail just burning it for bluegills.

Inlet us just like a river running in. So I was just wondering if there was current.

First things first if you can afford it... get a decent heavy action baitcaster with a 7.1 ratio reel.

The best bigfish bait ever is probably hard jointed swimbaits. The only thing is they excel in clear water.I would also never use my reg baitcasting reels with these at the risk of wearing out the gears because they can weigh up to 2oz.

The obvious option with the lily pads is frogging. Id try a non obvious approach like a big flippin or bladed jig with a big bulky trailer. With these focus more on the edges rather than the middle of the pads.

Another good bait would be big texas rigged worms. When I say bug take the worm you think is too big and use that or a size bigger. Ive caught 12in bass on 12 inch worms... trust me you cant go to big. Work em on the edges of the deep weedline or deep points beyond that. Big footballhead jigs will work well out there too.

Since its dirty water experiment with using rattles metal/plastic beads and different scented baits since its harder for the fish to see.

Speaking of scented baits if you guys havent tried lake fork soft plastics I highly suggest giving em a go. They leave a trail if scent/flavor that you can see in the water.

One of these days I'll enter a tourney. Don't know how I feel about fishing under pressure though. Never done it and it's never been like that for me. I didn't like comp skiing so I wonder how I'd feel about tourney fishing.


And Benson- I'd go frogs, swimbaits, wakebaits and big finesse baits if you're shooting for size. Lilies are a good indicator but also an obstacle. I would def get a heavy or MH rod, go with some 30lb braid and start throwing frogs, swimbaits and wakebaits to start with. If you can't get them to bite or figure out where they are, tie on a t-rigged Slug-Go SS and dange that fucker around until you can figure out where they are and what they're doing.


Not having electronics makes it very hard to target- or even know about- deeper structure where the fat daddies hide most of the time but it's not impossible. Even identifying where drop offs and basic shit is will help in a big way.

Ive only done a couple tourneys and I fuckin loved it haha. Havent done amazing in any of em but it was an awesome time regardless.

That reminds me you try that depth finder out yet? And your not having electronics bit reminded me of something. The best way to figure out whats down there is to rig up a carolina rig with a 1.5oz TUNGSTUN weight. If you have a good rod its like putting a picture of the bottom in tour hands

No, haven't tried it yet.


I do use that sometimes, other times a swimbait or deep crank gives a pretty good picture too but there's some ponds and lakes I like to fish that are so heavily weeded down there it's like a fkn whole jungle comes up with your line every time lol... I don't go super deep a lot anyways though, I'll admit it for sure.

I was more talking about when you have a downscan in front of you and can say "Oh, there's a tree" in like 35 feet of water and proceed to pull hogs off of it. That is so freakin awesome!

I'll give all that stuff a try. Honestly, I might just have to fish different lakes, but all the ones around me are like 8-10 ft depth max. Not too much in the way of deep water structure.

well yeah, but the boat has to be at least 16ft and the livewell has to hold a certain amount of water.. i just want a bass boat lol so i can join CT BASS and do tournaments with them

Can't wait to head out Saturday with some friends and explore the river next to my new place a bit. Did I mention they're building a sweet new brewpub between my house and my work right on the river? (house -> work are ~5 minute paddle!) Um yeah that won't suck either once it's running!

Punching some heavy ass mats that look heavenly on a local lake tomorrow. Found them last week, and the place barely ever gets fished, so I'm thinking some big fish lurking under there. That, throwing frogs into pads, and maybe flipping some docks is my gameplan. Perhaps some topwater if it's overcast.

Its done nothing but storm here the past 3 days. We got something like 5 inches of rain in 3 hours at one point lol. Despite that i'm gonna get some lines wet tomorrow. Hopefully they'll still be willing to bite

July 16th is the day. It's a Wednesday. It's the day two reallybestgoodfriends and I have decided is THE DAY for THE TRIP to Quabbin to rent a few boats and hit the upstream Pottapaug Pond side of the lake- a heavily weeded, several mile stretch of absolute Bass heaven. Cleanest water imaginable, coves and points galore and bald eagles everywhere too. Fkn lunker heaven.


I'd love to sneak up there to get a day in to check it out and get a feel for how it's going to fish... Maybe. We'll see.

im about to try out new KVD jerbaits and a new rapala crank that I got, it's pretty close to a bluegill so ill try throwing it in about 10FOW.


And I dont eat bass because i love the sport so much.... so i go out n catch panfish to fry. anyone else enjoy frying up some panfish???

KVD jerkbaits are awesome, all I use for jerkbaits. Theyre the cheapest and i say if theyre good enough for the best bass fisherman to ever live, theyre good enough for me haha

When i'm craving some fish to eat I usually go out lookin for walleye, so damn good. Or if im lazy and dont wanna go far ill go catch a bunch of crappie
