I'm about to get up again tomorrow morning at ~5 to hit the lake and I'm stoked about it. I love the dawn, it's always so cool, calm and quiet. It's easily my favorite time of the day in the summer. You even get to see shit like this:

I'm also trying my damndest to plan a Quabbin Reservoir overnight trip with a group of friends for later in the summer but it's freakin' hard to do when everybody has different schedules. I HAVE to get back there to fish with the Bald Eagles again! The ability to sight fish in 30+ft of water is pretty unique and awesome, and the potential is always there for a record fish.

Other than that its hitting the usual spots for quickies when my schedule and this ridiculous heat allow it.

Damn, I'm more of a late night fishing kind of guy, slayin hogs out on the lake at midnight in the canoe with my friends. Morning fishing is pretty sick too, I do that all winter for ice fishing though haha.

Me and the old man are heading up to a pretty big lake in NW Connecticut called Lake Winchester, we go ice fishing there and were gonna try bringing the canoe up this sunday for some bass/pike.

Basically, my plan for the rest of this season is to try to catch a bunch of different species of fish. Since I mainly just catch largemouth (and the occasional chain pickerel) I'm stoked to try to do so more trout, walleye, catfish, and pike/musky fishing. I might even make a checklist to see how many different freshwater species I can catch. Apart from that, I'll be fishing the Quabbin, Wachusett, Lake Champlain, Lake Winnepesaukee, the Conn. River, and Merrimack River. Those are the "biggest" places near me.

Have you ever fished the Quabbin before? Shit's amazing. Clearest water I've ever seen. You can spot out weed beds 20-30 feet down and watch schools of fish move around like I've never experienced elsewhere.

The only downside is the sheer size of the place. Makes it tough to get around and hit multiple money spots but that's a problem I'm cool with ;)

Yup, I've fished everything on that list besides Lake Winnepesaukee and the two rivers (I don't do a whole lot of river fishing). For sure, the Quabbin has amazing water clarity at depth. Of those, if I could pick a favorite, it would be Wachusett because its so close to me (Foxboro, MA) and it definitely competes with the other bigger ones like Champlain and the Quabbin. Plus I've been to it the most so I know which gates are the good spots :)

It was way too hot and I only caught ONE fucking fish.

I knew it was pushing it but I figured it would be better than that. Oh well, at least we caught a buzz!

I know that feel bro. Hooked a PIG a couple of hours ago. I saw a huge wake heading toward my bait and then he absolutely crushed it. Broke off my shitty, old, 8 lb. mono. Gonna pick up some Berkley Fireline soon, that shit's where it's at.

Lol 8? I was using 4 man! The bass got right in the lilies though, fuck that.

Just got back from cabelas, 12lb test braided line.... get on my level, bass!

Just got my first buzz bait too! Might try it out tomorrow!

Yeah, the line was 8lb but it was also old as shit. Threw that shit out real quick. Gotta pick up some braid, the lillies are starting to piss me off! I usually catch fuck all with buzzbaits, but I love using them. They're easy and fun to fish, and when something hits them, it's feels/looks awesome. Prop baits like the Heddon Torpedo are sick too, basically the same concept. I don't catch much on buzzbaits, but they're usually HAWGS when I do, which is a plus.

I scored one of those last week floating in my lake! Must of popped out of a big basses mouth! Mine is like bright orange/green and reallllly big. I was stoked to find that!


This buzzbait I got is different though, it floats!

Hell yeah! The Arbogast kind you got are sick also, love those. The torpedo is definitely my favorite single topwater ever, and buzzbaits in general might be my favorite kind of topwater, even though frogs are way more successful. Love poppers too though, it would be hard to pick a favorite.

If it's not raining or hotter than lava after work I may have to go float on some water and feed the need for the drug of the tug.

Have my eye on a few small ponds for a while and it looks like I'll have a few hours to go check them out after work.

Where in southern MA? I'm in the Springfield area. Went for a little while but got chased off the water by clouds. Still caught a few though, it's always worth it.

Been a crazy few weeks, but I'm heading back out tomorrow after work with one of my best friends. We are gonna smash that pond in half and shake all the fish right out of it. He and I always seem to have the best luck when we head out together. Weather should be fantastic and the water should be nice and cool.

Well, that failed miserably... I fell asleep at 5 am and woke up at noon. My summer sleep schedule is screwing me over, I need to get back into the swing of things for school. So fuck it, pulling an all-nighter tonight and going fishing at 6 am. Then I'll be tired enough to go to sleep at a respectable hour later tonight.

Ya it's a monster. If it wasn't caught in the dead of summer and instead in the fall, would have had a chance at being the state record.

Anyways, that's what i'm chasing right now, just can't seem to get em to bite. THis cooler weather we're getting is promising though.

YEAH! I think it's gonna be rough at first, I have literally no idea where to fish from a boat. I've heard people say points and rock/weed beds. The good thing is once I get the hang of it I know it'll be awesome and produce more fish.

The main thing is I can now fish for trout, walleye, pike/musky, and catfish more effectively, which is huge for me because I love catching different species. Catching bass and pickerel is fun but I love variety in fishing.

Like you said though, these next few weeks are gonna be great. I can't wait.

Also, buddy lost a big musky right next to the boat tonight before I could grab the net. Fuck. First one we had on this fall too. Hittin the lake again tomorrow though

Noob question, how do you find the deep weed edge? Good luck tomorrow! Taking the kayak out after school to a nice lake that has produced in the past. Problem is, it's a huge lake with tons of potentially great spots, but the shoreline is heavily wooded, making shorefishing hard. Not a problem anymore! I can't wait until school's over tomorrow...

Well I have a depth finder/graph, that's the easy way. Otherwise just trial and error. Use a heavy bait with an exposed hook and keep going further out until you don't hook any weeds

BTW Benson def go get a rubberized net right meow. Being in the boat you really do need one- it'll be the best $20-30 you've ever spent. Also I REALLY like the dual cupholders on your dash. Kinda jealous it supports double-fisting and mine doesn't haha. Which make and model is that kayak?
