Shin Bang- Ski pole solution?

inb4 repost.
But this is not a repost, I just want to know about a specific way to cure it. My Camp of Champions coach told me to rub a ski pole hard up and down my shin, and I've heard this from other sources as well. I just did it, like several brutal sessions of going to town on my shin, an it was incredibly painful. I want to know if any of you have done this or know anything about it

that sounds horrible. i guess it might be similar to creating callus on your bone, but idk.

make your boots as tight as they'll go so your shin doesn't move. the less your shin slams into the front of the boot the less shin bang you'll have. simple solution.

enough about fitting boots, it's too late for that, I'm at camp and need to get rid of that shin bang. They say that it like breaks down calcium build ups or something like that

idk go to the gym and beef up your skinny ass legs or some shit.

and do it right now so that tomorrow they'll be better.

You sound like a gullible retard who's shins now hurt even more...

There are two ways to fix shin bang. Get boots that fit. Learn to ski/don't ski back seat.

Problem solved.

Boots that fit make a world of difference

One workout I did when i got shin bang alot is i would stand on a ledge with just my toes on it and the rest of your feet hanging off and just do squats with no weights. You'll feel the burn pretty quick. Get rid of those chicken legs!

Get dr scholl's arch supports. Put them in your shoes and wear them around. Cured my shinbang in about a week.

cmon guys, I'm just looking for temporary fixes, just to make skiing bearable. I'm using voltaren, ibuprofen, and I'm even putting socks in my boots to ease the pressure on the tongue against my shin

Rub some bengay on your shins before you go to bed works amazingly. Did you spin past an 1800 at COC on the tramps. That was still insane at woodward on the tramps.

Short Term:

-Land switch more.
-RICE them in the evenings.
-Use a beer cozy to cushion (or cough up more $ for eliminators at TMC freeriderz or something)
-Stop throwing cork 7s to the backseat

Long Term:

-stomp landings
-get boots that fit better

We should seriously start banning people who still don't understand that poorly fitting boots and habitually skiing backseat are the actual causes of shin bang.


I mean what fucking rock do you guys live under that you haven't seen, heard, or otherwise learned by diffusion/proxy that this is why it happens???

Your coach just wanted to make you pay dearly for being such a n00b. Good on him. Yes, rape your shins with a pole- I heard if you spread cluslessness all over the effected area, it will help ease the pain of stupidity.

BUT....I understand the n00b is in need of ideas and needs it now. You got a few extra pairs of socks? Got a pair of scissors? Cut the toes off of them, turn them into little shin sleeves. Use as many as it takes to pad your incompatible legs so THEY now fit your boot. When you get done with camp, buy new boots.

Well he's already hurting, so I'd say R.I.C.E., ibuprofen and perhaps use voile straps and a booster strap to tighten the upper cuff area until he can get boots that fit. It will get progressively worse until it has time to heal and the initial cause is remedied.

I wouldn't use multiple socks, they impede circulation and also usually end up bunching up and causing blisters too.

This is true. But he's already pretty fucked. Like you said, once it's there, not much can be done. I had luck with the sock technique when I went to a race comp after I broke my ankle and my right calf was about half its normal size. You do have to find a balance between how tight you have them and how thick you have them so you don't lose a foot and they don't bunch up.

Your in whisker you have some great boot fitting shops at your disposale. Go down to the performance lab and have them asses your boots and see if there is anything which can be done to improve it for you

It's not that I don't understand the causes of shin bang, I know all about how landing backseat and having ill-fitting boots can cause it. I already have booster straps, and my boots are full-tilt booters. I probably should get new ones, but don't have the cash. And BTW, the ski pole thing actually works a good deal.
