Skins for hyper fat skis.

I need a little help figuring out what skins i can get for my 165-140-155 square tipped skis. My real issue is figuring out the hook, i haven't found anything wide enough. Maybe try to make my own? Or maybe im looking in the wrong places? any help is good.

Honestly, I doubt they make skins that wide. Most Touring skins dont go over 120mm anyway.

K2 makes skins for the hellbent. But you can also split skins down the middle. It isn't as good as original skins, but it gets the job done and there isn't all that much of a gap in the middle of the ski.

Im not looking to take these skis on real touring trips, more short skins that i still want to use my big boy charging skis rather than a skinnier touring ski.

you could buy some hellbent pre cut skins and drill holes in your tip and tail

Black diamond make some mohair mix skins that are 140mm if you really want the whole ski covered, but you would do just as well with a split skin. Split skins save some weight...seeing as the watchout's are pretty heavy,you dont need the whole base covered man.

As far as the tip an tail, I would just drill/rivet holes in them, similar to what k2 does for te hellbent/Kung fujas

byron, your best bet is gonna be the BD split skins. those skis are so damn wide it's gonna be hard to find a skin that fits well and isn't gonna be a bitch to tour with.

Why you're skinning on 140 wide skis I have no idea and skins that wide will also be probably 2+lbs each side.

Opinions aside, I am pretty sure BD makes 140mm wide skins. If not I'm pretty sure you'll be just fine using uncut 130mm wide ones, as that's a lot of contact area.

I do not envy your climbs though, ugh... That's going to be HEAVY.

My first AT set was Liberty Genome with Dukes.

I used BD ascension splits. I always went first breaking trail, but then I always earned first descents down with the group too.

You'll be fine. Just do some squats and get strong.

why????? you could've gone on geartrade and gotten a pair of pretty good condition skis for the same price which would be much more ideal for touring.

but hey, i guess you CAN use the watch outs for winter and summer...

ehh i mounted my old rossi bandits with dynafits, so they can function as a longer range pure touring ski. For the watch outs im keeping the jesters and using alpine trekkers, so they are really for short sidecountry/early season skins where i want to ski a bit harder.

And how could i not take advantage of the dual purpose water/snow ski technology?

got them at a flagstaff used sports goods store for $75. The one good thing about skiing in AZ is half the people have no idea what anything is worth

Also im trying to get lesh to sponsored me for being the hoodest water skier on the lake.

and yea, i bet if you wore that huge hoodie and your vest/jacket/whateverthefuckthathingis while you're ripping turns behind a boat, you would probably make it into the ballers club...

i go in like once week to check for new shit. These were mounted on old tele skis, so i think whoever priced them figured the bindings were old and worthless too. I was pretty stoked, and now i can try to do patagonia crew things.

Also by FD Vertika Vest multi functions as a flotation device.

and yea, it's kinda like an ABS bag without the hassle of wearing a backpack. i suggest anyone looking to get into the backcountry or waterskiing scene, or a combination of both, should look into the Vertika Vest flotation device. keeps you baller as fuck while saving your life.

K2 is making a 150mm trim-to-fit skin for next season. they also have an adapter that makes a "z-clip" skin work with any type of ski on th market
