How do you guys get music?

Okay. I have a Mac and I am having a lot of trouble downloading music. What are some good methods if doing so? And does anyone ever download music and them use iTunes Match?

I use a youtube downloader and go one song at a time because the university I attend actively pursues torrenters and actually catches many of them. It's absurd, but the youtube downloader always works.

A few far-flung correspondents and I have a dropbox pool which we periodically post new music to. I'm really lazy for it though.

There is still nothing I love more than getting stoked on an album, going to the record store, asking the folk who work there about it, make sure it's worth it .. And then walk out with a brand new cd. Too young for vinyl and tape, too old for torrents and I don't like the digital quality of iTunes. CDs for me.

no way. vinyl is the best way to go for physical albums. Age is irrelevant.

kat.ph and Vuze for full albums and discographies usually.
But I used to use Soulseek. It's a sharing program like any other but has a pretty responsible user group (virtually no viruses or junk). This does however limit the availability of some less popular stuff

Yeah it blows, but I would rather not trifle with the powers that run Ohio State.

They turn over 1500+ torrenters to the RIAA every year. I can't believe how much effort they put into this

750-30,000 per "work" infringed. Nope nope nope nope. Fuck that.

That's because people are tardeded and doesn't cover their tracks. A good VPN costs like 10$/month, i'd rather have that than a 50,000$ fine and a spot in the registry.

If I like it I buy the CD or Vinyl. Love having a hard copy.

When I find a song I like, I just find it in high quality somewhere, then use Audacity to record it as it plays. Save it as an mp3, done.

that effort? how fucking lazy are you?

the entire process takes however long the song plays for, adding in me having to type in the artist and track name, then hit save. Considering I rarely find new music I actually want to keep, this is hardly any effort for the few and far between instances when I do this.

Depends.

If it's a whole album, i use the piratebay.

If it's just a song, i google the song name and artist, including zippy in the search, which gives me several results with the song in 320kbps

If it's a tiny underground artist i feel like supporting because they actually need the money, i buy it off of itunes. But if it's.. lets say, a new kendrick lamar song, i won't buy it because the man's loaded, but Lemaitre or Pandreas which is pretty indy like that, i buy and pre order albums.

I meant the effort to go and find the music. rip it to flac, then transcode to mp3 v0. then you always have a lossless backup for your music collection.

That's what I do, so clearly I am less "fucking lazy" than you.

Way worse than my school. I go to unr and my roommates and I would download shit all the time on the schools wifi. We wouldn't seed so it wasn't up as long and we got through a semester and a half with about 100 movies and a ton of music and finally only I got caught. I had to do an online video and quiz and sign a paper saying if I do it again I lose my wifi privileges. I went to sign the paper at the library and the guy in charge of them said I was the first one in like 5 years that's had to do that haha

itemvn.com, download mp3 files from itunes for free, most that are recently added are 320kbps. They won't have everything you're looking for but it is a great virus free site. If you want a good converter 320Kbps or 256kbps, whatever you prefer, MediaHuman player is a great free app.

i mostly just stream it from spotify

i have a large library of old music from college where everybody shared it. it's still nice to play some old stuff here and there.

If its something mediocre, I will torrent it, but for example, I bought 3 albums yesterday off Itunes for artists that I want to see make more music.

I use http://www.vidtomp3.com/ copy/paste youtube link into url and download. You can transfer it straight to iTunes. All it does is convert the file, nothing illegal.

Just FYI, artists get very little from itunes sales. If you really want to support an artist buy the album direct.

I turn on my mom's car radio and record the tracks they playing on air with my iPod, then listen to them later. Nothing worse then when you turn on the radio and they're halfway through a favorite you haven't recorded yet!

But to every one here, I owned all of the music I wanted to get but in a series of unfortunate events I lost all of my music(4000 song) and did not want to buy it all again. And I lost all my my iTunes ski movies.

The only thing I can not retrieve are these albums...

by far the easiest way to get a variety of new music

1.) jailbreak your phone
2.) download a tweak called "Pandy"
3.) listen to Pandora
4.) save any song directly to the music app, and it syncs back to iTunes
