Ive seen some east coast vids of dudes hitting spots I wouldnt even consider. Some have looked like they were skiing down little frozen waterfalls. Sketchy shit I tell you what

he shouldve at least opened it up and straightlined the bottom section but that was more legit than almost anything else ive seen on the east in terms of big mtn

I was thinking he should opened up more as well. Looks like there might have been some snow falling with him might be a reason why he took it kind of easy. Also thanks for the embed.

That's fine , from my experience trying to out run the sluff is a bad idea it is hard to stay in control. It is safer to stop let it slide down and start again.

I'm pretty sure you have to skin 20miles one way to get to the base of this chute. no point in "opening it up" after all the work to get there.

yea but skiing fast is fun as fuck, and it will shorten your ski run but what 30 seconds? a minute? when i lived on the east coast thats why i always wanted to go west, so i could rip alpine lines at high speeds. you can go make little turns like that in the trees. But quite jealous of you op been wanting to ski khatadin for a while but never got around to it.

as a side note the torngat mountains in northern quebec and the newfoundland fjords have some pretty good terrain as well. Torngats are the in fuckin middle of nowhere tho.

Maybe he's just not a confident enough skier to open it up. Maybe that's as fast as he's comfortable going. I guarantee you that line is scarier than it looks.

pretty sure he didnt open it up more because he was waiting for somebody... dont want to leave your friend in the dust then have something happen. he skied it sufficiently fast. Frizzle is the man and either way this is nuts..

i wasnt even hating on the video, more just using it as an example to respond to that comment. never said there was anything wrong with skiing like that, just that its also fun to go fast. All the stops he made were obviously him waiting for his buddy. And sure its scarier than it looks its a pov. at the top of a coulie like that you're not going to be ripping gs turns, but you can normally straight line the bottom if you want to depending on the run out. saying that theres no point in skiing fast just because you did a long hike is ridiculous. i can understand playing it safe if you are far from help, but if you are skiing within your confidence level you don't have to slow down just because it was a long time getting there.

yeah this. im not hating on the dude at all, you can tell from the video he's a good skier. just saying like this dude did, just because something takes a long time to get to doesnt mean it's objectively dumb or something to rip it fast

Anyone who has been in a situation like this gnarly dude would know that you don't even consider saying something as stupid as, "it woulda been cooler if he went like faster cause like taking unnecessary risks like going fast is like really funz!!!"

gonna agree with skiierman here.

he's not gonna open it up even if he was a competent enough skier to do so. when you're that far from help you take every precaution to get out of there safely, not leave you buddy high up there on the line so you can straight line the last bit of it.

he's not filming for TGR or some other big name ski flick. he's enjoying the work it took to get to the line and appreciating the turns he's getting while attempting to stay as safe as possible.

i could understand if it was a line a lot shorter than that one where he could ski it fluidly in one go, but with a huge line like that it's just not too smart to take risks, especially if he's actually 20 miles out or whatever.

ive been in plenty of situations comparable to this one and youve gotta be kidding me if youre seriously gonna go with the "i know more about BC and safety than you" route if you don't think he could have opened it up a TINY bit more at one point

i'll reiterate because you like to twist people's words to something you can hate on-- this dude is a really good skier and i totally understand why he skied it as he did. i just wish he had opened it up a bit more is all. i mean, we didn't even see the run out, maybe he did straight it out a tiny bit

i've done plenty that is comparable in terms of a difficult line that is a long trek out and nowhere close to medical help etc

why do you insist on being so dramatic and not even responding to what people say? you have plenty of good info/opinions to offer and it shows when you make posts that arent rushing to be dramatic and mean

After clicking the youtube link this guy is a ski patroler at sunday river and he is in his 40's. I know for a fact that he wasn't tired after the skin cause Chris pulls insane running times and could easily compete in ironman. He is skiing one of his tele setups. He skis more responsibly more than others, hes got two kids at home to think about and he is going to be the head medical person in the group that he is skiing with.
