I do not use the "Site Discussion" forum very often and I know it is mainly to talk about the technical stuff about NS, but I also saw that it is for making suggestions too.
If you think this thread is in the wrong forum, then tell a moderator and tell him to move it.
Here are some of my thoughts on Newschoolers:
to stars, its difficult if not impossible to conduct legitimate business or have a single legitimate sale because every other member comments unhelpful, overall just hateful comments to your thread. It doesn't help anyone. Maybe there is someone out there who does appreciate it and would be interested in purchasing some of my items for sale. Like honestly, a VERY LARGE majority of people on here lie about the condition their item is in, lie about how much they paid for it, and, thankfully we've kind of gotten a handle on it it seems lately, some scam you altogether. Just about everyone here acts like a 12 year old child, immature and doesn't know how to properly conduct business. I believe that Newschoolers.com could be very successful and legitimate if it were not for the actions and immaturity of the members. It absolutely shocked me when I first joined about 2 years ago. Not only that, nobody is reliable on this website when they say they are going to purchase something. Let me walk you through a hypothetical situation, this is just one example of the many different ways members on here act. Situations very similar to what I'm about to post has happened to me multiple times, and I'm sure happened to a lot of you guys too.
Hypothetical Situation #1:
So, a member named "X" wants to purchase my SAGA Jacket. X messages me and asks me the length of the jacket, even though I already posted it in the thread. Despite my annoyance at his lack of reading the description and only looking at the pictures, I tell him again in hopes of getting his business. X tells me he is definitely interested in buying, so I give him my paypal email and X says he will send money in 2 days when he gets his payday. Fantastic!
But next thing I know, 3 days have passed by without hearing anything from X and I haven't received a dime from him. So, I message X and ask him when he is going to send the money. No reply. Next day, I ask him again, no reply. After 5 days, I try one last time asking if he wants to buy, no reply. I check and X has read all my messages.
Lack of communication people!!! If he was no longer interested, he could have kindly told me so and I would have respectfully said, "Ok, thanks anyway." But instead, he decided not to say anything.
That is just an example of a thread in the sell/trade forums.
disrespect, immaturity.
Why, why must everybody if they even just mildly disagree with something (not only in BST forums) anyone's post and/or opinion on something they decide to curse them out, and say that they are a disgrace to the site. Or something along those lines. Why must every member post unhelpful, useless, argument just to keep that pointless tradition of hate on this website going? You ALL know exactly what i'm talking about, and I'm sure you have all done it at some point (I know I have).
Again: disrespect, immaturity. I think you see the pattern. This pattern has become just the normal ritual.
I have a theory: Could it be because when an individual joins the site at first, they are insanely excited, absolutely stoked to be a part of this community. At that point, when they try to post or sell something, maybe its in the wrong forum, maybe it sounds like something a "noob" would say… so they think of ways to get back at the people making them feel like shit. Hell, maybe this is a possible reason people have a desire to scam. For me, I couldn't stand all the hate and such so last season I didn't go on here for the better part of a year, then decided to come back to put up a sale. To be honest, the only reason I didn't not come back at all was for the business. The money. But that's the most unreliable part of NS.
We are all part of this terrific community, and we should be supportive of each other and it could be fantastic, and the only time I have seen that is when a professional skier post post of, say, triples and insane tricks not any blue name on this site could attempt without snapping their neck. That's only when someone will say things like, "sick, keep up the good work!" or anything even remotely supportive like that. Nobody compliments or helps the newcomers whatsoever, and thats really a shame. If somebody just learning to ski posts an edit of their beginner skiing, we should be commenting, "Nice try, you'll get there!"
That's a bit of an exaggeration I don't expect to ever see anything like that, but you all know what I'm saying.
Maybe once someone gets to an intermediate level of skiing, it spoils them and makes them a complete asshole.
Hell, I mean maybe my expectations are too high.
So if you disagree with this post and decide to ridicule and/or curse me out (which would only prove my point more), go for it. If you agree with what I say, great +k.
The only reason I am posting this long thing is because I truly love skiing and care about the sport and whats happening to it. I hate to see the one online community just for people like that turning to utter shit.
I might post some more of my thoughts in the future.
