Editing the OP of a thread?!

Hey guys. So I realize that being able to completely change the original post of a thread would be a shit show on NS, but why not allowing for alteration of the original post after creation of the thread.


similar to on reddit how people can go back and make additions - hence all the "edit - ________" posts. i think this would greatly help in the BST forums for changing prices of stuff/alerting people to items being sold/etc......


but jsut to be clear, you can't change what has already been posted in the OP, only add onto it.

I think B/S/T, gear talk, site discussion, and M&A should all allow post editing. SG and NSG should not.

Yesssss. That would be sick. Then legendary threads wouldn't disappear even in under threads due to edited OP's.

yup. on a pretty popular golf forum i used to frequent you could change the OP, but almost no one used the non-golf talk section. it was heavily monitored, no curses, no callouts, no politics or religion talk. it kept member relations friendly and professionally but took away the ability to learn about new people. with the trolls and such running around ns that keeps things fresh, changing the OP could do some really bad things which is why i dont think it would work here with the lack of moderation of the like mentioned above.

IMO that could open up pandora's box -- but it's something we'll discuss this month when looking at potential forum upgrades.

One great thing about not being able to edit the OP (and posts in general) is that people take more to reread their content before clicking "Create Thread" or "Reply".

well i don't think replies should be able to be changed at all

i just think the OP should be able to add onto his original post specifically for sale/media purposes. i really think that if you limited the ability to edit the original post to like the BST, WTB, Media and Arts, and maybe Gear Talk forums, you'd avoid anybody using it for stupid purposes, trolling, etc....


please consider it, i know personally that I would make good use of the feature, and i think many would catch on quickly and use it to their advantage in the select forums.

no they would make sense if editing wasn't allowed and only addition was.

if this were the case then nothing would make sense. i am not proposing this, i'm proposing the following......

Nothing wrong with that! Reddit is awesome, and (as I'm sure you've already noticed) we've taken a lot of cues from what they've been doing -- both on the tech and community side of things.

Agreed! And if something like that can work on reddit without too much abuse by trolls then I think NS would be able to handle it in certain forums
