Waxing Sintered Bases

Is there any special technique involved in waxing a sintered base? Different temp wax or something?

Or is it just the same procedure as a normal base?

Same as any base really. The wax temp depends on the snow conditions not the base. Make sure you do a hot scrape to clean before waxing, don't use wax remover.

You have to wax em at least once a month if you want them to preform how they should.

^ depends on a lot of factors, like snow conditions, amount of use ect but you will prob want to wax more often then once a month

read up on the difference between the two ...

sintered will be easier to wax because it absorbs nicely into the bases, however, they also require more care and need to be waxed every couple of days when skiing ....

usually i hear people saying somewhere around every 3 days but i come by waxing every week (given that my bases arent in mint condition)

as for waxing techniques theres no real difference in wax or temp settings ....

you can see when the wax is being absorbed properly when you slowly move your iron over the base it should leave a shiny film of molten wax right behind your iron ....
just be careful not to make the base too hot ...

If you're worried about damaging you base there are a couple of things you can do. Set your iron to a temperature which melts the wax but not uncontrollably. There should be a very light smoke coming from the iron. Make sure you don't keep the iron on one spot on the base for long ie keep the iron moving on the base. As an extra precaution you can crayon on the wax all over the base before you drip melt it onto the base with the iron. This way the hot surface of the iron will never come into direct contact on the base.

its esentially the same as any other base, but the wax wont last as long, so you need to do it more often.

The majority of skis and sb have sintered base...so id say they are a "normal" base.
