I am looking for information on places to move to the west coast. Currently looking at Bend OR, and Lake Tahoe area in Cali. Any thoughts or insights?
Also considering other surrounding states.

Both are very good. If you plan to travel frequently I would suggest Tahoe. The reno airport is fairly close and usually has good flight deals. Also I believe, correct me I am wrong anyone, but there is a larger scene in Tahoe in terms of apres ski night life. Another benefit to Tahoe is you have several different ski areas you can go to and easily accesible back country.

Mammoth rules. The park is one of the world's best, and Chair 23 serves up some of the terrain anywhere.

I currently live in Burlington VT. I am looking for a similar vibe. Somewhat of a city, year round residents (meaning not only good to live there in the winter), young people (good mix of men and women), social atmosphere as well as good skiing close by.

Bachelor is Flat with a nice terrain park.
Tahoe is Steep and Cliffy with scattered decent terrain parks.
I would choose Tahoe, but if you're a park rat Bachelor is great.

Tahoe is dirty and crowded, the snow is terrible, the people are terrible and the lake is not as saphiric as the pictures would suggest, definitely don't come here

Meh. Bend is a better town in my opinion, somewhat more similar to Burlington than Tahoe, but Tahoe has all around better skiing. Sick terrain and pretty legit parks at Squaw/Alpine, Northstar has one of the best parks in the country and Boreal isn't too shabby, and Mt. Rose and Sugar Bowl have pretty gnarly terrain. that's only north lake, too.
night life is better in south lake, but truckee, tahoe city, and incline aren't too bad for night life but it's no Burlington by any means...I wouldn't really characterize it by its night life. Tahoe's nice cause it's 40 min. to reno and ~4 hours to San Francisco and a little more to other coastal areas, which is sweet. tons of awesome mtn biking, hiking, etc right in town and Yosemite is sick and pretty close by.
my only complaint is a lot of the work is highly seasonal, which has its ups and downs.
I might recommend Bozeman, MT as being more similar to Burlington's culture and there's sick skiing there--not as much park though. I think all around, though, SLC is, in my opinion, the best living/skiing situation in the west if you're looking to live in a city with amazing parks and big mountain skiing nearby--pretty incomparable in that regard. It's in no way related to Burlington, though, except in college/population maybe.

came here to say bozeman, everyone is there to ski and live life outdoors. Less hicks than you would probably associate with Montana, and the skiing is pretty amazing.

both very viable options. I currently live in Tahoe and its pretty goddamn awesome. and if i were to move anywhere, it would be Bend OR or somewhere near Crystal Mountain in WA.
I'll say the "go-ahead" states include: California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada (east side of lake tahoe), Colorado, or Wyoming.
All times are Eastern (-5)
