Overshooting

never really happened to an extreme but what do you do if you know its gona happen of a big jump, as in to prepare for impact

I try to either get my tails (or tips for switch) down first to absorb some of the shock for smaller smaller jumps. But for giant overshoots, I don't know that there's much you can do besides get loose and prepare for impact.

Bend your knees, put your poles parallel to the ground. Like said above, get loose. Drunk people get hurt less when they fall because they move like ragdolls.

you generally won't have much control but if you can, try to hit the ground first with your skis and then sort of hipcheck/roll the rest of your body to the ground.. that is, try to make the order of body parts hitting the ground go feet legs hips core maybe shoulders (and pretty much above all, try to not let your head hit, it doesnt take hits and recover the same way the rest of your body does)the way paratroopers used to do back in the day when they hit the ground hard

i can't remember very well but i vaguely remember some dude hitting the huge JOI jump naked a few years ago and over shooting the hell out of it, and i seem to remember him displaying a pretty good overshoot landing technique considering the circumstances. maybe i or someone else can find that video and see if that's true

i usually try and absorb the initial impact as best as i can with my legs then purposely wash out or slide or roll so that energy is dispersed and doesn't hurt so bad.

As soon as your about to hit the ground prepare to pull some sort of ninja roll, its a great way to disperse the energy of the fall. Oh, and try not to land backseat when you over shoot. Practice makes perfect.

Aim for the bushes.

When I overshoot super bad what I like to do is get loose, and on impact shift my weight to the side so you can slide more instead of splatting on the ground.

The absolute best info I ever got about falling was go ragdoll except for your head. Put your chin to your chest, bring your arms in, and go with the fall. Just don't try and stop your fall with your arms, you will ruin your humerus like I did.

Ditch the polls, and roll it out. Try to relax.. if you're tense you're gonna end up fucking something up. I know its difficult when you're comin in hot an all wrong, just stay loose and protect your neck. I'd take a broken leg or arm over a broken neck or head trama

here's the video i was thinking of. he doesn't do the paratrooper roll thing that i was describing but he does do a good job of hipchecking and spreading out the impact considering how fucked he is

that was fucking terrible, he landed on his side, chances are you fuck yourself up badly if you land on a body part, regardless of the part, as opposed to absorbing the shock with your skis/boots.

However given how off balance he was it wasn't really an option.

Stomp it. Land dead center on your feet, then go as backseat as possible to transfer the energy and make sure you rock your tips up and ride away with maximum steeze.

If you can't do that, ragdoll.

take both poles and arms and outstretch them towards the point in the snow you will impact.

this should shift your weight far enough forward that in turn your line of sight should be straight down your arms and poled

lock your elbows and pole flip the fuck out of it

Okay well when you say get sideways that is pretty ambiguous, but I hope you don't mean like try and land sideways...

First thing you should always try to do is either land forward or switch, landing any any other angle is a great way to blow your knees out if your binding doesn't release. Once you land try your best to transfer your weight back and then pop up your legs up and have the impact go to your hips/pelvis.

How the dude on the JOI overshoot did not break his hip, or back is beyond me?!?!That was some serious height.
The simon dumot overshoot still gives me chills every time I hear the sound from him hitting the ground. Don't know how he didn't die.
People slip and fall in their bathroom and die, these dudes are falling from 50ft+ in the air to flat.
Similar to the Jake brown mega ramp accident. That dude hit the ground so hard that his shoes literally blew off his feet.
I read a story in the newspaper about a young girl who was wakeboarding. She wasn't very good, and was not doing any tricks. She lost her balance and fell backwards. Long story short she passed away due to brain trauma. From falling straight backwards going 13mph on a wakeboard. Yet we see spectacular crashes just like simon and JOI all the time. Some guys get seriously hurt, but a good portion of them just pop back up. That is mind blowing to me. Because being 30, I kinda over shot this 20ft drop at snowbird last year and I could barely walk the next day.

DO NOT TRY TO GET SIDEWAYS. I overshot a 60 foot jump to flat and thought to get sideways and fractured my pelvis is 2 places and was out for the rest of the season.
