LED'S vs remote flash

I was wondering if anyone has ever used led panels instead of a remote flash.

Since remote flashes are a lot of money I was wondering if anyone has experience with doing this because i might want to try it.


theses are bigger so i might end up going with smaller led panels.

But for the third time i was just wandering if anyone has experience with this, if it actually works, if there is some benefit to using a remote flash apposed to using the led lights.

How bright are you needing it? would some yongnuo 560 ii's not be good enough, not sure how they compare to those mains LED panels, but it's nice to have portability, you'll be able to figure out the difference

Well i have a flash its just its a lot of money to invest in a set of good transmitters that can handle a high shutter speed. I mean I guess I could use the transmitters i was just wondering if this would be a good cheaper alternative. I see what your saying though.

what do you consider high?

also I have a feeling that using the LED lights you might not be able to have a fast shutter, as the frequency of the lights will be 50hz(america might be different, but that's what it is here anyway), I may just be confused and wrong about the physics of this, but It might result in you being unable to use fast shutter speed with them.

It looks like they're going to be on full time, and won't serve as physical flashes... So it comes down to what you're going to use them for. Video, yes. Photo? Doubtful. I doubt they get as bright as a flash to be able to capture light at what you need, say 1/1000 or faster, even at f/1.4. So like I said it depends on what exactly you want to do with them. If you left your camera on a long exposure though, and then used one hotshoe flash remotely mid exposure, you might get a great shot, as they would serve as your 'slaves' for cheaper, and then you could still just use your one flash to capture the action mid exposure. I uploaded a picture doing the same thing more or less of me on a rail

I was going to be using them with photography yes, and 1/1000 or even more if possible is. I was planning to shoot action sports and just use led panels instead of a remote triggered flash. As said earlier that it would be a lot more to carry (true) and that maybe it won't be as bright.

Yeah honestly for action they wouldn't work too well then for anything other than fill light with a long exposure and external flash combined. For action at least

Do you not understand the reasoning behind a flash? It's to deliver a POWERFUL burst of light only when needed (as to not distract as much as a constant light source can) and it's a burst because continuous light at that strength is extremely hot and incredibly resource intensive.

Good luck finding a controllable light source powerful enough for what you're looking for at a price cheaper than a $45 flash, $50 triggers, and $30 accessories

Also PS if you're trying to sync flashes at 1/1000th you must be shooting in broad daylight which means you need about 1000w from the light source to highlight your subject
