Recommend me a wakeboard

Im looking for my first wakeboard, ive just been riding my friends forever and need to get my own. dont know what his is, think its some cheap knockoff board. ive only ridden that and one other so i dont have a super good idea of what i like/dont like in a board.

i can say i like it to be a little less carvy/responsive/sharp feeling and a little more loose and drifty. havent ridden anything with a 3 stage rocker or anything so dont know if i like that or not. advice for bindings would be great too.

If your a beginner don't get something super expensive, I would go with a pair of closed toe bindings because you don't get any foot slip when carving making it more responsive. It all depends on the kind of riding you do also? hyperlight, CWB, liquid force, they all make various board for different styles and difficulty in riding.

ronix also makes great boards. call evo, i'm sure they can find you a board that fits your style. they have a ton on closeout too

HOW DID I FORGET RONIX! yes they make awesome boards. also just like skis, look at getting last years model for a little cheaper. It will save you tons because a good wakeboard new can cost almost $600

I have a cheap Gladiator Phoenix board that works well. Its a 3 stage rocker which allows you to get more and easier pop off the wake.

This. I have a Ronix that I use at my lake and also at my local cable park. It takes the abuse of boxes like a champ and I dont have any complaints about it. Its light, poppy, and durable. Pretty much everything you would want out of a wakeboard. I cant vouch for Liquid Force or Hyperlite's boards, but Ive owned wakeskates by both of them as well as Gator Boards and Ive loved all of them, especially my LF SST bi-level.

Also if its your first board I wouldnt get a 3 stage rocker, Id go continuous or hybrid cause theyre much more mellow.

Fuck mellow. If you want no pop and just want to fly into the flats with no height at high speeds, I would suggest a continuous rocker, but otherwise, go 3-stage. inb4 "omg b..b...but Murray used to shred so hard on a continuous board!" Well, Murray was a fucking freak of nature. Get something like an LF Watson, Harley, or S4, Ronix One, etc. and don't be a pussy when you hit the wake. Aggressive boards that are quick edge to edge, loose on flat, easy to break loose, but grip hard on edge. Don't waste your time with anything else.

I like my liquid force.

If you're still in the learning stage I wouldn't go for a 3 stage. You'll find it more predictable when hitting the wake.

If you're a beginner and looking for something pretty reasonably priced that will set you up for a while something like this would be decent: http://www.evo.com/wakeboards/hyperlite-state-wakeboard.aspx#image=64056/313909/hyperlite-state-wakeboard-2013-130-front.jpg http://www.evo.com/wakeboards/cwb-pure-wakeboard.aspx#image=63974/313521/cwb-pure-wakeboard-2013-130-front.jpg They're hybrids with a 'subtle 3 stage rocker' meaning pretty much beginners boards but will still see you right when you want to learn bigger tricks. You can still get plenty of height from boards like these and they will ride tons better than whatever knock off you've been used to. Just make sure you remove those nasty bolt on centre fins as soon as you get it. Otherwise, pretty much any Hyperlite, Liquid force, CWB or Ronix board you can find for a decent price will be OK. Just remember to buy the right size for your weight! Bindings - get closed toe! Unles your feet are still growing in which case open toe would be more economical - just make sure you get ones with velcrow straps.

Ronix Viva is about as good as it gets for a reasonably priced board that can do everything. has some cool stuff built in to help you with your toe side, continuous rocker, light weight and supper poppy.

def splurge and buy yourself some closed toed boots tho. makes all the diff in the world. and some of them are even starting to come with intuition heat moldable liners!

Thanks for the reccomendations! I talked with another friend about what I'm looking for and he recommended a ronix bill. What you think? I want something a little more buttery drifty jibby feeling. I love wake skating and just screwing around, slashing the wake, poppin around and stuff, it'd be nice if I could get a decent amount of that feeling in a wakeboard. I don't plan on getting hardcore into wake boarding, just wanna get some basic spins and tricks down, and have a good time fucking around. Also I don't have a "legit" wake boat, so dont know how that's gonna effect my choices.

Everyone you speak to is going to have a different opinion on what board you should get; I've never ridden the Bill but I've ridden a fair few Ronix boards and they're all solid.

But dude, when you say you want something 'buttery, drifty, jibby' it makes me laugh. If you're a decent rider you can make any board feel however you want but if you're shit, every board will feel the same. A wakeskate will always feel more playful, just go for whichever wakeboard you can get cheapest and spend what you save on decent bindings.

IMO the biggest difference to your overall riding will be the wake. If you're riding behind a fishing boat then you'll still be able to have an awesome time but once you start to get good, you might want to try and find someone with a decent boat to take you out. I spent my first few years riding behind a Bayliner in the open sea and I thought it was legit...then my friend took me out on the lake on his Mastercraft and fuuuuuck, my jumps were 5x higher with no additional effort.

140. Bigger board = more pop, softer landings, and better buoyancy. If you've never ridden a small board, you won't notice the increased swing weight.

check out evogear.com and buy something from the outlet. Not sure how it is these days but place used to be stacked with deals. I bought a $400+ wakeboard for $170 with a free wakeskate and tshirt back in 03/04.

I wouldn't spend a stupid amount of money on your first board. I feel like you can't really go wrong with that approach.

Thinking of getting LYMAN pro, anybody ride one of these. Also I'm kinda cheap whats comparable that I might get a better deal, doesnt matter if a couple years old.
