I cannot believe that this, along with countless other misshapening and haunting things, has "magically" flown under the radar of the American people. What are we doing to combat this, fellow U.S. citizens? Why have we let it get this far? Between the Patriot Act, the NDAA, and the corruption that has plagued presidential administrations for decades, it's high time something be done, and we stop blaming past generations, Democrats, Republicans, who the fuck ever. The shitstorm will end up raining down on us, so who will stop it if not the victims?

Meh I'll get over it. Sure read my emails I have nothing to hide. The presidential scandals happen in every other presidency although Obama is one of the more corrupt recent ones.

Well as long as you aren't some radical posting crazy shit online or making terror plots, you should be fine. Its not that I'm for these types of legislation, but at some point it does prevent terrorism going on in our country and keeps us safe.

Is it bad we didn't know they were watching us? Yeah probably cause they infringed on our right to privacy. But is it really that terrible? Not really, they are looking for threats and unless you pose one you have nothing to be worried about, and if you do pose one I'm glad the government is watching you. I don't think the problem is that they did it, but that they hid it from everyone.

the problem is that these programs lend themselves to the possibility of a totalitarian state. If the government decided to start persecuting people of a certain opinions/beliefs/affiliation, they could easily do so, because they now know almost everything about each one of us, and nobody would have any sort of recourse against them. the potential for abuse of power here is staggering, and history has taught us that politicians will abuse power whenever the opportunity arises.

If they were going to persecute it would have already happened. The government has always been the one constant in America while society is the one persecuting and deeming who is a better or worse person.

An extensive USPS program similar to the NSA's was recently exposed. All mail sent is documented.


They're pretty much doing everything short of video taping you in your own home. Without any permission or probably cause. And you're ok with that?

No I'm not saying that I agree with what the government is doing but I'm saying that they've been doing it through every presidency. They have always been controlling and looking into people just this administration was the first in a while to be exposed by it. What i meant by a constant is that they aren't doing any persecution of any races it's more the people in the society doing the acts.

although i am surprised how little some of you right-wing numbnuts have a problem with this.

protocolling internet activity of your ally states (also under the cover of anti-terror stuff) is just wrong on so many levels. it takes so much effort to effectively retrieve, organize and store all this data, its not even funny. and this program is against everything a civilized country should stand for.

i am probably the last guy who thinks his privacy (internetwise) is all that important, but goddamnit, this whole NSA activity is illegal in so many ways, its not even funny. i am pretty sure that other countries (most of them, we would call corrupt) do similar stuff, but the US have to be atop of all that. you cannot claim all that civilized and liberty shit on your front and do all this "other" stuff behind our backs.

if you dont know, people in the EU are fucking mad right now. although you probably dont care about our 2nd class countries.

I dont necessarily feel threatened or scared personally knowing that the government can read my emails and can keep track of my texts, calls, etc.. i have nothing to hide, what i do is probably of absolutely no interest to them. but i still do not want my privacy infringed upon, we all have the right to privacy and the government could care less. but like others have said, its not necessarily the privacy thing thats scary, its the EXTREME imbalance of power that scares me.

i 100% believe that the government HAS TO fear the people, not the other way around.
its not even debatable anymore that the government does not fear the people and that the people absolutely fear the government. the people have to be the ones watching their back, making not sure to say/do the wrong thing, not fuck up, etc. in fear that the government will prosecute them. meanwhile the government is completely ass raping our freedom and privacy, breaking laws left and right, completely ignoring the constitution and the well being/freedom of the people, and we know about it, and cant do shit about it but bitch and moan.

when you really think about the state of our country and realize how we are having our rights and privacy shit on all the time, its pretty fucking disturbing.

i also want to point out the video someone posted earlier about the kid saying something on facebook and now being in jail for it.. that kid didnt have shit to hide. just said something stupid on facebook and now he's in jail, possibly for a long time and his life is completely ruined, and this isnt a result of his actions, because his actions, while stupid, should be completely fine, its 100% a result of our corrupt government.

look at the "best" countries in the world right now: canada, switzerland, sweden, norway, denmark, finland, austria/NZ to a lesser extent...nobody is afraid of anybody else. the government and its' people work together in harmony

would definitely disagree with what you call the "best" countries, and even in every country you mentioned, there is some level of conflict between government and the people, and some level of fear, its necessary. i semi agree about the government needing to work together in harmony, though i do think that there needs to be some level of fear of the people for any person or government organization who is given power over citizens, no matter how well they work together.
i am a firm believer of a government by the people, for the people, where the people are well represented in the government, which we have for the most part lost. and when thats the case, and the government becomes so far separated from its citizens and no longer is acting in the best interest of the people, thats when fearing the people is so much more important.
but anywho.. im not trying to sound edgy, you probably just took it the wrong way, the government right now can shit on our freedom because they do not fear us, maybe fear is too "strong" of a word for some people, but however you want to word it, the government needs to believe that fucking with the citizens rights/privacy/freedom will have a negative effect on the government. but at the moment, taking advantage of our rights is only helping to grow government control. we as citizens cannot keep the government in check because we do not have the power to do so.
