What is style? Style to me and to many of the people in the industry is the art of taking a trick, adding your personal touch on it, and making that trick seem as effortless as possible. At the end of the day, style is a description/rating of skill/knowledge of the sport and it's tricks.
Initially, style didn't exist. It was just accomplishing the next-best-trick possible. Now, as we move into future-spins, comp spins, huck-to-win, whatever you want to call it, it's fair to say we should step back and analyze what is style really?
We are coming into an age of speed. We have accomplished the tricks, we have conquered the landings, and now, we are moving into the new era, which skating has seen with the rise of Dylan Rieder. The K-fed's, the swaps, the blind outs, are crazily (respect to all the kids who have made this a reality) a thing of the past. 75% of riders with the chance to ride on a consistent basis are pushing the sport into a new era and my guess is: Technical. Style is headed towards being technical and showing your all around comfort level on a pair of core-shot, broken edge, laminated and art decorated planks at high speeds. The reason I think this is, Adam Delorme. He has taken skiing to a place literally only comparable in skating. (Rodney, Daewong, Rieder, etc) The only way to differentiate yourself in the saga decorated industry is to really show you are a legitimately good skiier at any speed. (Note* Saga makes rad gear). I really think the future for our sport is bright, mellowed with smaller features but better style and honestly all around more aesthetic to watch. Congrats all, our sport has come so far and it really is a great thing to observe.
