Roboworm straight tail worms.

I like colors that are on the bright side, but that have natural elements to them. Bonus if they look "meaty" or like something that isn't an alien species most of the time. Purple looks great underwater, and looks like I'm describing- it gives a look of natural muscle/fleshy tissue along with many pinks, darker reds and even orange in the right shade and application.

I have a ton of colors (I don't use worms, but for like bass jigs, craws, etc.) I use whatever the water is like that say, lakes are usually brown/greenish or pumpkin color.

I'll try them out. There's a HUGE Bass Pro Shops right in Foxboro, and I think I've seen them there before.

Holy shit, these are awesome. Panther Martin makes them. I think the flash and vibration from the spinner blade catches the attention of the fish and then they key in on the swimbait and strike. They're called "Vivif Style Spinner Minnows" on the Panther Martin website. I've been catching bass on these and 6" Slug-Gos lately.

Anything watermelon or green pumpkin, cinnamon, black w/ blue fleck, and anything with a dark, natural color but with the tail of the worm dipped in chartreuse or fluorescent orange/pink. I also seem to have shit luck with bright colors, could be because I don't fish them frequently and also because most of the places I fish have relatively high water clarity.

Heddon Torpedo prop bait. Really love these, basically a buzzbait that floats. They cast a mile and come in tons of sizes and colors. They're easy to fish and I find that they're more effective than regular sinking buzzbaits. My favorite colors are "Leopard Frog" and "Baby Bass".

Not exactly bait or lures, but I am in love with trokar hooks. They are a bit more expensive but they are fucking silly sharp with the way they lazer cut the barbs. I've missed far fewer hook sets with them and figured I'd pass along that my skepticism was quickly a past concern after I started setting hooks with a wrist flick.

My go to in deep water or when the bass aren't very active and biting is a drop shot rig with 4 or 5" shaky head worm or any small profile plastic that doesn't really sink. Absolutely slays bass.

Try the havoc subwoofer too. The bass love em!

After subwoofer, I totally pronounced it bass like the music tone. Fkn got me.

Mepps Aglia super light, sometimes I wonder why I ever try a different lure. Bass perch pike sunnies, I've caught it all.

I snagged one of these out of the discount bin at ACE Hardware, only topwater that has caught fish for me. The one I use is yellow.

Yeah, they're fantastic. I caught 2 bass on mine when I went out this morning. Pretty much the only topwater I use now other than a frog.

These things fkn rock. I use a lot of jerkbaits and these work great for that even though they're drop shot bait. Nice and thick and tough but flexible, they took a serious beating and were still functioning. Also look awesome and move great in the water. HIGHLY recommended with a texas rigged mag worm hook.

Amborg Jitterbug, Bass hit mine like crazy, including a couple 20inchers and I also pulled out a 23 incher!

horny toads, just find them at your local fishing dojo, their the best for post spawn or if your just chill in during the summer looking for largemouth

Berkley Havoc Subwoofer. Huge vibration from the cut-tail design, great for speed worming or just fishing it on the surface like a mini-buzzbait. I love the whole Havoc line, but this and the Pit Boss are probably my favorites.

Ever use the yamamoto soft jerkbaits? Theyre heavier than any other brand ive used so you can work em a lot faster

Yes I have and they are good, I like the pro ones (I think?) with the pointy end. They have their place and work well but I do also feel like in more pressured lakes, it's the most used soft bait alongside the classic spiral tail worm so I do try to get familiar with other baits and presentations as well. I try to give them looks they likely aren't familiar with or to assimilate the forage/patterns that match conditions and while senkos are classics and work, sometimes finicky fish want something more convincing or slower/ more frolicky, y'know?


I feel like with senkos they tend to charge it but stop to sniff it before striking. With a Flash J it seems like more often than not they just steamroll it, never stopping to investigate. Also- hook troughs and foil reflectors. Can't overstate how nice the little details are sometimes :)


Other things I'd really like to give a thumbs up to is the Roboworm "FX worms" and "hot tips"- the banding or color contrast really seems to draw strikes even over the regular robos. Westy also makes a rigged and pegged double hook version that's pretty cool but a little spendy.


When that still isn't slow or sexy enough, I really really like T-rigging weightless Slug-Go SS finesse worms. They have the front end of a 4" Slug-go so it darts around, slashing back and forth- but it also has a thin whiptail that adds a whole other dimension of action when you're walking it slow through weeds or features. Just the littlest pops during retrieve and this thing springs to life like nothing I've ever used. They are super durable, that action is amazing and the size seems to be perfect for just about anything in the size range I'd want to catch.


My other favorite baits have all been frogs. Koppers Live Target frogs in darker natural colors & 45/55 sizes as well as the Lunkerhunt Lunker Frogs in both sizes have been getting SMASHED for me. I like natural colors and medium to smaller sizes. Frogs are SO MUCH FUN. Can't think of a more fun way to fish.

Sorry shoulda been more specific, I was talking about the yamamota d-shad soft jerkbait ha. I 100% agree on senkos, I would rather find an alternative. Theyre insanely expensive and the durability is horrible.

I like strike king ochos, coffee scented just seems to always work better than everything else for me.

haha yeah pretty much, the consistency of the senko plastic reminds me of cheap grape jelly. It's as if they exploded at the mere sight of a fish.


I will have to check out those D-shads and Ochos. Haven't tried either of them yet- and who doesn't love coffee?? That reminds me- I was thinking of taking some of my refrigerated and congealed bacon grease and using it as a megastrike substitute just to see how it works. Kind of the same consistency, very strong smelling and salty too... That and I have a bunch of it and I would be far less grossed out once it got on my hands haha. Maybe I'll give it a shot next time.

Strike king Ochos are a good senko alternative, as mentioned by Hugo. I'm also a fan of the Berkley Havoc Flat Dawg. Kind of a senko-style bait in that it's a soft stickbait that gets its action from the fall.

Also, the bass pro shops generic senkos are pretty much the same thing as GYCB but a bit more durable and much cheaper.

I fucking love those Koppers frogs, I have a 65 in Black/Tan that's seen dozens of fish over the last two seasons. Favorite frog on the market at the moment. I'll have to try those Lunkerhunt frogs, I've heard good things about them. I agree, frog/topwater fishing is by far the most fun way to catch fish, imo.

Keep forgetting to say this- Snagless Sally spinners are THE SHIT. Weedless, a bunch of colors, durable as hell and awesome vibration and action. They've been around for so long that most people have forgotten about them but they fkn ROCK, especially as a search bait.
