X Games Detroit

So now that Los Angeles is no longer going to host the X Games there is a huge push by Metro Detroiters to get it moved there. As much as I would love to be able to see X Games live in person I really don't think the city can handle it. Don't get me wrong, I love Detroit, but the city can't even handle their own fireworks without a shooting, stabbing, or other violent crime. A lot of people have argued against me saying things about when we hosted the Superbowl, World Series, DEMF/Movement, and the Belle Isle Grand Prix. As cool as it would be to have X Games a 30 minute drive from my parents home, I really don't believe it is in X Games best interest. No one wants to go visit Detroit, and Superbowl XL was proof being that it was one of the lowest attended Superbowls in the last 20 years.

Any thoughts on X Games in Detroit?

I will give them credit for a lot of time, money, and effort involved though

Honestly it would probably end up costing money for the first few years, if it even stays there, just like the Superbowl did.
I would love to See X Games in Detroit, and I am behind it 100%, I just feel that not enough people from outside of Michigan would have the desire to come to it they way they came to L.A.

I would drive there from wisconsin. Even though it's a long ass drive because you have to go through the up or around lake michigan.

If any of the events looked like they were being held in Hiroshima in 1945, it'd be the sickest thing ever.

That's not happening so I really don't see any reason to pick detroit.

I cant see it happening, but then again I cant see it at any of the finalists. The options are fucking whack though. I'm super surprised Florida and NY got left out seeing as they are extremely popular travel destinations as was LA. Texas can suck a million dicks, no way do they have an extreme sports scene.

Actually the place to be for bmx right now is in Ausitn Texas, everywhere you look there is a ledge curb ditch railing being rode, there are dirt jumps everywhere and core shope on every street corner

I would probably go to an X-Games that I could drive to, but they've really got their work cut out for them, given Detroit's reputation. I mean, it would almost be worse for the city to host it and have someone get shot or something than to not host it at all.

I agree that Philly was amazing venue for X-games. The last I heard Texas was one of the top bidders.

I think they should have kept it west coast; SF, Portland, or Seattle would be just splendid. But out of the 4, I could definitely see Chicago to host.

Detroit could easily get state or federal funding for this in order to have proper security. There's enough evidence to support the economic benefits of action sports and events like this so I wouldn't doubt that if this happened, Detroit could have a major turn-around.

that bid video does absolutely nothing to convince me that Detroit is a good location for x games. If anything it does the opposite, especially with that part at the end that looked like an anarchist attack.

I'd be down. I understand the concerns but fuck it. I would like to see xgames traveling around more again. I think the whole locked down to one spot forever idea is pretty lame.

I get that it makes it much easier to throw an event in the same place year after year, especially with how big xgames got, but still. I'm just not a fan of it being in LA and Aspen all the time.

Both summer and winter have been locked down to LA and Apsen for like 10 years. I hope summer comes to the east coast again sometime. Maybe throw another philly xgames or something.

If people have a reason to start putting shops back on Woodward I think Detroit can make a come back. Under the grime the city is fucking gorgeous and the property value is so low, this kinda stuff is exactly what Detroit needs. You wouldn't get a big out of town draw, but LA never really had that any way. You would get the rich folk from Birmingham/Bloomfield Hills spending $$ downtown and that's better for a long term plan than out of town folk. Plus the Comerica Park/Ford Field proximity is way better than anything in Chicago IMO. I love the idea
