The death of that dog is 100% the police's fault. I did some research and learned that filming on-duty police officers is 100% legal, as granted by our First Amendment Rights. The only exception is if the filmer is obstructing the officer from doing his/her job, and in the video I didn't see any obstruction whatsoever. Therefore, the two (then 3, which was in no way necessary) cops who arrested that guy had no right to do so and invoked the dog's natural instinct to protect its owner. Also, judging by the SWAT truck, 5 (maybe more) police cars at that house, and SWAT team entering the house at that same moment, those cops had much bigger things to worry about than a guy filming the scene (again, 100% legal).

This video is weird to me for one reason

The cop keeps putting his hand out towards the dog, and everybody knows that a medium sized to large dog will try and leap up to your hand if you hold it out, he does this 2-3 times, each time the dog goes up on its hind legs. What the fuck did was he thinking? Like honestly, the guy seems like hes just trying to get the dog to chill right there, then suddenly decides oh shit this time its going to bite me BANG BANG

I am actually about to cry, dogs like that ARE NOT meant to kill that dog was obviously scared that its owner was being handled that way by police(I say handled because dogs dont understand situations like this) and was going to prtoect him. Whoever said that's an idiot.

That's really my point... Him standing in a public space with a cell phone gives no grounds for arrest.

Whether he was taking pictures or checking for a damn signal, there was no investigation into what happened, and they just simply cuffed the guy - who DIDN'T resist any arrest, because he had his hands behind his back and did what they told him to.

tackle the dog, tase it, mace it, whatever... don't fucking shoot the thing, my god. Even I've been able to stop a dog from attacking me. Putting 4 shots in it's body isn't how you take care of things.

Whole thing would have never happened if there was no illegal arrest to start with. I blame the first two cops who decided to arrest a guy in a public space, who was not interfering with the armed robbery investigation to begin with - simply a bystander with a phone. How is that a threat.

I don't know, it just seems like some police officers either aren't properly trained, ignore the training, or are too damned dumb (or some combination of the above), and think they can "arrest" people for anything they want. I.e., if we don't like what you're doing you're under arrest for doing it. I have never witnessed any such lack of professionalism in interacting with police myself, except for the gang task force unit up here. And those guys aren't so much cops as they are a brute squad.

I have dealt with lots of police before... they're usually always unprofessional. Least in California, like where this whole thing went down.

then again, I've dealt with a shitload of forest service 'federales' and they're usually dickholes too - and they have to go through a lot more training to get where they are. I just feel like there's too much allowance for prejudice while in uniform.

The audio footage of the officer putting his clip into the dog was what upset me most. So many goddamn shots. He could've killed me in my lanky frame with all those shots.

Apparently this isn't the first time that Rosby has had issues with the local police. His prior record includes convictions for resisting arrest, battery and driving under the influence. Rosby, a black man, has filed six complaints alleging mistreatment and racial profiling by the Hawthorn Police.

he was being arrested because there was an armed robbery in progress nearby. The police were trying to listen because the robbers had barricaded themselves in, and no one knew if they had hostages or not.

Guy rolls up in his car blasting music, refuses to turn it down, then gets out of the car (music still blaring) and confronts the cops. Said guy also has a history with the police and has complaints registered.


people give the guy too much credit. He wasn't some honest dog-lover walking by. Guarantee it the guy was a piece of shit hoodrat who was most likely trying to provoke the police to support his own complaints against them.

Exactly this. If this dude had just minded his own damn business, he would still have a dog. Plain and simple. Did you notice all of the other people filming the cops who decided not to yell at them, blast music, or get involved with something they had no business doing? The cops didn't even try to talk to everyone else filming them because they weren't an issue.

When you interfere with an investigation, yell about there being no black cops repeatedly, and blast music then the cops are probably going to want to talk to you or at least get you to shut the fuck up until their done. It's really unfortunate what happened to the dog, but if the dudes window was rolled up and dog never escapes, then there is absolutely no story here. Everyone needs to stop acting like this dude did absolutely nothing wrong and is just a victim. Maybe this dudes dog getting killed will teach him not to unnecessarily meddle in shit.

That does not mean that the police handled the situation correctly.
That does not mean that it was necessary to shoot the dog.
Sure he was a dick but that does not make the eventual outcome acceptable at all.

You must know nothing about dogs or what the word loyalty means then. The dog wasn't being offensive towards the cops, look how he started off sniffing the ground, the cops lunged at the dog and it responded like any other scared dog would.

The dog didn't deserve to be shot. end of story.


That and the cop is a fucking moron for leaving it so long without putting it out of his misery, that was straight fucked.

While I can respect a police officers right to protect himself.  I believe that this was blown completely out of proportion.  I have been around dogs my entire life, I've seen viscous mean dogs, and I've seen extremely friendly dogs.  I don't believe this dog acted in a malicious manner in anyway.  He was barking at police officers for handling his owner. WHAT A DOG SHOULD DO.  Police should anticipate that this is how a dog will react in a situation like this.

I read a news article about this event earlier today and it stated that the dog "lunged" at the cop.  This is a very over exaggerated statment.  After watching the video several times, it more looked like the dog was jumping up to give the officer a hug... Which I'm sure he wasn't.  But the officer had no way of knowing that.

I guess next time I go over to my buddies house and his dog jumps up on me to say hello, it would be justifiable to shoot it dead by some peoples standards.

Even if the dog did bite the cop, I still do not believe that shooting it was the first was the right thing to do ESPECIALLY with so many officers around.  Come on these people are supposed to be "trained" professionals.

I've grown up around cops (family/friends of family) and I've seen the way they act on and off duty and while there are plenty of good smart cops out there.  The most that I have come in contact with are elitist, power hungry, unstable assholes.

You would think since a police fore deals with dogs of similar breeds and protective characteristics would know that the dog is trying to protect it's owner. The owner had very little control over his dog with his back to him and his hands in cuffs. Also a tazer would have easily taken down a ~150lb dog for enough time for the owner and police to safely taken care of it without killing it. On the other hand, rottweilers and dogs of the like are fucking intimidating if you aren't the one in control of them.

On another note, this video isn't even all that bad. I remember a video of a police raid where they were in this guys house and the dog was standing in front of the family barking and trying all that a dog would to to protect other than attacking. The police men advanced and the dog backed away and as the dog staggered forward because it tripped (walking backward is somewhat complex for dogs) the officer shot the dog in the head, and the dog died instantly right next to the 5 year old son. And why were the officers in the house in the first place? Because the neighbor noticed a bong in the bedroom window.
