& from what I remember from the video, the dog was nowhere near the guy, and not showing any signs of hostility/aggression, and that's when he shot it? Not gonna watch it again and find out. Also anybody got a name yet? one person said officer salmon but doesn't seem reliable

I agree with this 100%. The man wasn't going to run or anything. The police had quite some time to think about the situation and they must have seen the dog before. Its kinda obvious that a dog will defend his owner. And the man even put the dog in his car before he went to the cops. I guess he might just have forgotten the open window. Just a very unlucky situation that should have been prevented. I would expect a better overview over a situation from trained police officers. And I suppose they learn how dogs react to certain situations too (defending their owner and such).

you don't need to be a dog handler to be able to assess a situation and have some common sense, or even know where to kill a dog cleanly,

i don't think you understand how socially unacceptable it is to kill someone's dog...

This is really sad and will make any dog owners heart break like it did to mine...

Lots of people will blame the officers, but imo it is the dog owners fault. He should have left him in the car wiith the windows mostly up before getting out and recording a crime scene. Like any responsible dog owner would do. This man has a history with complaining and sueing police officers its unfortunate his dog had to die for him to get a chance at winning a lawsuit. Hopefully he will not be allowed to own another dog as that was an unfair way for him to die. Officers should be trained to taze dogs though. His death could have been avoided many ways. Tazing him or simply listening to the officers would have been smart and avoided this. Would be interesting to hear of a cop dog getting killed by a citizen for self defense, as they are treated the same as a human officer.

Look the guy can be the biggest asshole in the world, that doesn't mean you get to just arrest him for standing there. The guy did nothing wrong, certainly not arrestable and even attempted to put the dog away so he could *talk* to the cops. How would he know they're just going to arrest him without saying a word?? He didn't, plain and simple. You can't really plan for that.



Also yes, a police dog counts as a cop if it were to be killed in the line of duty. I honestly don't blame the guy who pulled the trigger as much as I do the two fat fucks who just decided to arrest someone for standing there and create the situation to begin with.

there was an armed robbery in progress nearby, and they were trying to listen to the area to figure out where it was/how to proceed.

this guy rolls in with loud music, they ask him to turn it down, he doesn't. He then gets out of his car (music still playing) and confronts the cops


not to justify/condemn anything, but he was hardly just a random pedestrian going by.

By his body language it looked like he was saying something threatening. Hard to tell though. I think the officer could have pepper sprayed the dog too. The dog sees somebody yanking its owner around and its going to try and protect him. The dumbass police officer decided it was a good idea to lunge at a dog that is all riled up. By the way it was walking on the leash it seemed like a well behaved dog.

The fact of the matter is we dont know for sure why he was arrested. The guy didn't do what the police asked him to (turn his music down in his car), but maybe there were other issues in play. We can't hear what their conversation entailed. Maybe he threatened them. Maybe he has outstanding warrants. He has been brought up on charges (which have since been dropped) related to a domestic dispute. I wouldn't be surprised if he has more extensive involvement with the police. Yes, he is a plaintiff in a lawsuit against the police for using excessive force, but chances are there is a decent reason why the police were involved in the first place.

As for the dog, the police were completely within their rights. I think any cop in any city would have had the same reaction. When a large, aggressive dog such as a Rottweiler starts running towards you when you have it's owner in custody, it's considered a threat. You can't talk down or reason with a dog in a situation like that like you can with a person.

Didn't the officer keep approaching the dog? That's what it looked like to me, so if a stranger approached me in the way the cop did to the dog I'd probably react how the dog did

I dunno man, I've been blind side tackled and had my face smashed into the sidewalk because I matched the description of a 5'8" male in a black hoodie; I'm 6'2 and was wearing a blue hoodie. The apology I received was that I shouldn't be around dark places late at night. I'm pretty sure that doesn't warrant having a fat asshole dig his knee into my back.

that was horrible to watch.

and yeah, sure, cops are trained to protect themselves blah blah. but i'd like to think that even if i were trained and armed, i would resort to something a little simpler first. like kicking it and grabbing the leash maybe?

it's a DOG i wouldn't automatically think to kill it....

its very hard to say that they shouldnt have shot the dog in the first place. it didnt look very menacing, but thats hard to evaluate. if the dog grabs one of the police officers, they cant just shoot at it because their colleague might get hit as well.

but if you put two or three bullets into literally anything and then just watch it bleed to death, thats pretty fucked.

this situation should have been handled a lot better. reminds me of this dude with a pipe cleaner infront of this fast food restaurant. people with such loose fingers shouldnt be policeman.

Be mature enough to acknowledge that the situation sucked for both parties and what went down is regrettable. You're letting emotions cloud your judgement, no one in this video handled the situation as best they could.

The dog lunged at the cop when he tried to grab the leash unfortunately, obviously the dog reacted as a large dog would and it probably scared the shit out of the cop considering he was already so scared he decided to draw a weapon. Rottweilers are scary if you aren't around them a lot.

It wasn't pleasant, but I watched the end of the video a bunch of times to get a better grasp of what caused the guy to shoot.

Probably, but I still think it was unreasonable and poorly handled. If he shot the gun at the grass once that dog would have backed off, but in the heat of the moment he could have done something equally damaging.

This was just not thought out at all and everyone involved really fucked up each others day. The guy shouldn't have been a douche and shouldn't have brought his dog, and the cops should have had a plan considering they could see him walking around with a Rottweiler for however long and it was obviously going to be an issue.

Everyone involved just went full retard and the dog got the full brunt of both parties' stupidity.
