Opinion on ski racers?

We all know one, ski racers always gapin in the park, taking up space in the lift lines, and looking weird in those racer suits.

So, what's your opinion about them? Like them? Hate them? Don't care? Honestly, I don't mind them, as long as they stay at their part of the mtn.

I really don't understand any of the hate or tension between racers and park riders. I mean it goes both directions but skiing can be enjoyed in a multitude of forms and for some racing on ice is what gives the adrenaline rush we all crave rather than throwing tricks. I honestly have a ton of respect for racers and all the hard work they put into skiing. Yes the mentality and goal of racing and park riding is different for sure, but you can't deny that all the workouts and tireless training they go through is worthy of admiration.

And to say that racers look funny is kind of hipocritical from a park riders perspective. I mean they do look funny but don't 14 year old rich white kids dressing like gangsters look kind of ridiculous as well. Anyway, ultimately the way you look doesn't matter as long as you are enjoying riding and progressing, no matter what type of riding you enjoy.

I usually hate them because they are all over confidence pieces of shit, they are usually the ass-holes on the lift that swear at you.

I'd say a significant chunk of professional skiers today grew up racing/moguls/competing, hate all you want, but theres a very good chance they are better skiers than you....

They could also think the same of you. Simple answer to the rest of these threads. Theres no animosity between the groups except when you put it there. If you want there to be hate, there will be. Not all racers hate park skiers, not all park skiers hate racers. If you want a reason to hate them you will always find one.

Whether or not you like the 'culture' of ski racing, you can't deny racing makes you into a damn good skier.

Ive raced, tried park but I much prefer powder and side country and moguls. Plenty of my friends race and plenty ride park and none of them hate on each other. A lot of racers I know see skiing as a sport and not a hobby, they train, they race they win or loose they don't see slope time in the same way as most of us do they see a slope in a different way to we do, not all of them but there are only a few cross overs I know, theres a few I know who have competed in race, park and freeride as they love all aspects of skiing, I like the race training as it really does improve your all round skiing massively.

I can't judge all of them, but the ski team at my local hill is a bunch of pricks to the park crew. Until one day me and some friends beat them at their own game (slalom) by a landslide. Now they're just a bunch of quiet mother fuckers

But she is right. Most racers pay a fee for the program allowing them quick access up the lifts to get to the space the mountain has allocated for x hours per day. Most mountains are quite hesitant to let race teams use hill space during the prime hours (weekends, vacations, etc) and would rather have the hill space for the public. But since prices for many race teams have risen to attempt to accomodate the costs of renting the hill space (contrary to popular belief, most teams pay the mountain for the space, it is not free) they also get to use quick lift lines.

As much as people here may hate the race programs for what people perceive they bring to the mountain, it is these families and kids that help fund MANY additions and bring in lots of revenue. I can tell you that the mountain I grew up on has about half a million come in from the race program alone, and I am pretty confident I am lowballing this amount.
