Looking in to getting my first shotgun very soon. I want to do some trap, but mainly to duck hunt. Ive done some research and found that the Remington 870 is basically the main gun out there. Ive also seen the Mossberg 570 and seemed to like some of the features better (loading shells, safety postion, and looks). What did you guys have for your first duck gun?
My dad owns an 870, and he seems to love it. Great gun...never seems to jam. Can't really comment on it personally though. But if you have any questions about a Benelli nova....hmu
870 wingmaster. Its a polished up version of the 870 and has been my main trap/bird gun for years. Can shoot 47-48 out of 50 consistently and has worked great for birds with a quick change of the choke.
I hunt pheasants with my dad and I've used the 870 since I was in 8th grade, I love that thing. Never had anything near to a problem with its performance.
I have a remi 870. I'm probably close to 2,000 shells going through that gun and the thing has never jammed on me. Its a fun gun, got my first turkey with it and a couple dozen ducks. Those little bastards are hard to hit, but waterfowl is so fun.
The Remington 870 and the Mossberg 835 are just about equal, both in price and performance. Take a look at both. The Mossberg 500 is a bit less gun than the 870 I believe. I own an 835 for turkeys and love it.
My first gun was a winchester 1300, and 11 years later I still use it everytime I go duck and goose hunting. Look into the winchester sxp, the new version. Its lighter than the 870 and just as reliable, and will probably cost you less too. You'll thank me later after it proves itself in the field
i use a 20 gauge browning auto 5 for grouse and pheasant and then a 12 ga 870 wingmaster for ducks/geese.love both guns, but love the auto 5 so much more.
