Question: CS6 & P2workflow

Hey everyone...So I have done some research google wise as well as playing around with CS6 as well but I have run into a wall so to speak. So basically I moved from FCP6 to CS6 earlier this winter but now I was wanting to go full CS6 workflow. In FCP6 the log and transfer feature is great because it converts everyclip to dvcpro .mov and is easily transfered to people who need shots as well as to be used within editing. However with CS6 it works natively with .mxf files...which is sweet and all but not the most ideal for file management and transfer to others.

Here is my question for those of who may have experience with this workflow...How do I best go about getting p2 files to mov with CS6? Or should i just stay with log and transfer in FCP then move to premier? I want to consider the ability to give shots to people and their ability to use them as well as long term work flow? Id rather edit with mov files but I want to know if there is an advantage to using the mxf files in editing? I have already seen issues with file locations/transfer from camera/and use in other programs.

Help here would be greatly appreciated!

Do you have a way to grab the files directly from the camera/storage cards into a folder on your drive? because I would think the DVCPROHD sequence settings would accept them directly off the camera?

I have no experience working with a P2, but wouldn't it work to just bypass the in-program log and transfer completely?

In my original post I explain that CS6 plays the files natively. I am asking how to best convert them so its easy to send to others and for editing simplicity sake. Also wondering what the benefits of editing raw is compared to log and transfer in FCP6

If I'm correct, you should be able to just import p2 clips into premiere.

You are. I have acknowledged this in both my orignal post and second post. I am ASKING if there is a way to convert to MOV in CS6 like I could do in FCP6. ANd if there are benefits to editing RAW compared to MOV?

I am also considering the issue with file organization and having so many video/audio files that are RAW from the P2 cards.

Threads. We all know premiere can edit it natively, but with an easier format it would be a lot easier. Wish they had like an adobe version of prores :/

i know this doesn't entirely answer the question but is mpeg streamclip out of the question, to just log and convert through that, then you can dump everything else and use the converted files? i know its not entire cs work flow. so i guess im full of shit. whops

I'm sure I could have googled this but what is the advantage of editing with a compressed file? This might be because I was on some bogged down school computers but it always seemed like compressing files was a huge hassle because it would take hours to finish all the clips I needed but in cs6 you can just start editing right away and I get better quality from cs6. I might have just been doing it wrong though

well for 1) prores works in adobe (which for some reason i feel i've explained to you before) and 2) prores is pretty much just dnxhd
