Helmet cams on fireman

Ive actually done this a few times at the acedemy but never really got any good videos on real calls.   the last thing you do on a call is remember to turn the camera on.  

but heres a good video to watch of some gnar fires

no offense but why do you feel the need to film this? Its your job, you dont need to film it to get pussy. How would you like to be browsing the internet and see a video of your house, your memories, all your possessions, possibly a pet burning to the ground and being destroyed for forever?

Way to be a party pooper....

Me and probably the vast majority of people find it interesting to see what it's like to fight a fire, by having a pov video of a fire, firefighters can help show the absolute destruction and pure craziness of a large fire to the non understanding masses, therefore maybe even preventing fires. Plus its badass, He's not exploiting the victims at all you fuckhead

meh, i don't think it's that big of a deal. we just had a fire in a building we own. the family business is on the first floor and there are 3 apartments on the second floor that we rent out. 2 of the 3 apartments were completely ravaged by a fire on father's day and tbh, i wish i had pov footage of the fire and the destruction it caused. i think it's important for people to see.

It's not something I would ever imagine doing, and in my brigade there is no way you would be allowed to have a helmet cam...but I guess as a firefighter you see a lot of things that the general public don't and perhaps there is some interest.

Having said that, the most 'impressive' looking fires (like that one) are almost always fought defensively from outside so anyone could just turn up and start filming. That house had almost flashed over, no way anyone was going inside. And filming inside a normal domestic house fire would make for pretty dull television since visibility is almost always zero. I guess once the fire is out you could start to film - damping down and turning over - but all you would see then would be the destruction. As for filming live rescues - I don't agree with that at all. The decency of the casualty should always be protected.

There have been some pretty decent 'a day in the life' type documentaries of firefighters and their calls. They're all over YouTube if anyone is interested.

yea man I was a fulltime firefighter until i joined the army, still a firefighter though, im just on leave for military service.

some of the best ways to learn is through expierience.  Sometimes seeing a helmet cam video from a fire gone wrong or right may is something you can learn from.   Ive seen shit people couldnt imagine and non of it I would film,  But a house fire?  property can be replaced.   And its not about Pussy,  thats just a benifit of not being a 15 year old.   We do this job so the only fires youll have to see are hopefully from your computer.

You never learn from a video camera. Its from real world experience where you actually feel the exhaustion, heat and crew mentality. The time you do learn is from your senior crew members leading you and you trusting their knowledge and you taking away lessons from it. Not from a tv screen. We didnt let our crew wear hat mounted cams for the sole fact if something does go wrong. Because when it does, you dont want to relive it.

ha if your a fireman your dept is a joke if they dont let you have helmet cams, Ive been to the Rock and half the shit they teach about flashovers is from helmet cams before you go into the trailer.   And dont talk about expierience im in one of the busiest houses in new york besides brooklyn.  Hempstead NY  truck 7.   Ive been in and have seen firse go wrong and a wish we had cameras to show what happens.   Helmet cams of roof operations is one of the best trainers.
