Questions about Hood.

I'm gonna be at Mt. Hood I think on the 17th of this month and was wondering what its like now. Also, since I'm only going to be there 1 day, can you rent twin tips there? I need to know today cuz I leave tomorrow. Thanks!

Ya you can rent there, but they probably got a limited choice, and make sure there waxed, it's going to be super slow if its hot out.

We got barley any snow this year. I'll be really surprised if you can still (easily) ski to the bottom of mile by the 17th.

2 years ago there were bare spots everywhere and 1 little strip to the lift. As longs I can ski, I'll be happy.

There was a short hike today to get to the bottom of mile, any its only going to get longer. It should still be just a couple hundred feet by then, so it's nothing to be too worried about.

As far as rentals, I think they have twin tippers in the winter but idk about summer. Call the shop beforehand and ask.

The lift line was dry today, I think true laps of the mile are done. Definitely can walk to the lift for the next week or so. As for the 17th I think pub is gonna be hurting, they don't move it up the glacier til August

Are the jumps still in fair condition or is the melting really taking a toll on them?? also, I though park crew keeps that shit up? I'm headed out there in a week and either way can't wait!

Yeah theyre great, tline park crew is killing it. Only problem is the trail to the magic mile is melting quickly, the walk extended from 50ft to about 500ft today and soon there probably wont even be a trail to the mile anymore.

shitfuckshit that was fast.

the jumps were surprisingly nice the entire day saturday, they were salted in the morning so they were a little icey the first hour.

Yeah, its bad. Couple years ago, you could lap the mile until late july and like july 28 '08 the conditions were about the same as they are right now.

Hood lost about 50-60" of snow from monday morning to tuesday moring, so fucked, windells had to re-burry their rails 3 times in 24hrs and public had to completely rebuilt the rail zone, the jumps were re-tilled and shaped too. The ski out is metling quick and the path to the mile is done, so public is mostly hike now.

I was up this week at Windells, and it has been so hot lately that there is a large quantity of the snow that has melted. Mt.Hood has lost a great amount of snow

This. You have to take your skis off in a few different places to lap the mile. Park crew is doing really well considering the absurd melting. Its ridiculously hot up there. The new rail section was dope today, hit it twice then wrecked my ankle though.

pretty low but coupled with the rain the last 2 weeks and the hot weather the last few days our snow is getting fucked, public is still fun tho if you are down to hike, new rail setup is bomb!

With the way it has been going... how do you guys think the park will be late in the summer? I'm hoping to make a road trip there during the first week of August. I've heard they move the park up so it can be lapped by palmer

It was pretty weird this year. I went a week earlier than I have gone before and still managed to see the least snow I have ever seen on that mountain. I'd never had to walk the lift line at the Mile, and the trail to the parking lot was stopped about 15 yards before the lot on the last day.

Don't let any of this scare you into not going though. There will still be plenty of people there skiing, filming and having a grand old time. You'll just have to hike primarily instead of ride the lift. It's still skiing on actual snow in the summer.

Due to the low snow this year the rest of summer is going to be a small one. Monday (July 15th) the lower portion of the park will be closed and getting dozed over, the exit for the ski area will be going through that area. The pipe and a few jibs will be open. Starting next Tuesday we will have the pipe open with one jump and a few jibs here and there.

As for moving up to HCSC lane in August its still up in the air. We are about a month a head of where our snow levels should be, so keeping that area going till the end of the year will be tough. I would lean more to expect a hike only, jib park near the top of mile/ bottom of palmer to get us through the end of the season. It sucks but with no snow what can you do.....

Thanks for the update. This is sure disappointing to hear, althoough it's beyond your control. We're coming out to Hood next week, planning to ski Thurs- Saturday. IThis is our 5th year in a row, and it's never been this bad as far a snow melt. I'm not looking forward to all the hiking, and little terraine to ski that's for sure, but we'll make the best of it. It's hot summer skiing after all. I wonder if Whistler is experiencing a similar situation? I've never been there.

Hiked Tom Dick last weekend, and was pretty shocked how bare the T-line side looked for this time of the year. But it's been hot as shit compared to how it usually is.

Yeah you can rent at T-line, you might be able to find a demo shop in govy or sandy and get a better selection though

As of today, public has a pipe, 3 jumps(25-40ftish), probably 6-8 rail features of all shapes and sizes. Pretty fun.

Well I have an update myself. I got to go up today(14th) and the jumps and pipe were alot of fun. If I were to guess, the jumps were(3jumps), 25,35,45. That's really just a guess. The first one was perfect because I finally got the balls to try a 720. Never done it before and pretty much just threw myself off the jump haha. Didn't land it, but after hiking the jump 3 times, I was exhausted.

From the bottom of the snow to the lift was a longer walk than I expected. Still fun.
As for rentals(to whomever this may concern) get the performance package which is at least a twin tip instead of a pure downhill ski. If you got the money and want the demos, go for it. I'm not sure what demos they have. The skis I got were some type of atomic. They skied alright after I got used to them but, I like my skis better haha.
The snow conditions were also better than I expected due to the temperatures. The upper half of hood sucked in the afternoon cuz it was so sticky but the lower half was still ok, slow, but ok.
I'm not sure exactly what all they're plowing tomorrow but the lady I talked to said there will still be atleast 1 jump and some jibs.
Hope this answers anybody questions about going or not, if you have anymore, feel free to post in here.
