That's awesome.
They work so good in the summer because when it's hot out, the bass become a bit more lethargic- and also the bigger they are the more energy it costs them to go after a meal- they are true opportunists and it has to be "worth it", especially above 5 lbs. They didn't get that size by running all willy-nilly all over the lake and chasing everything, y'know? By slowing down that retrieve and twitching that jerkbait you give them plenty of time to see it, get pissed or hungry and wail on it.
I usually prefer more natural colors for the Slug-Gos like the rainbow trout color, golden shiner, moss shad or the like- something that is probably familiar to them, y'know? Something with some shine and flash is sometimes good too like their glittery ones like the black ice or chartreuse silk ice or the methiolite work good to attract attention. I like to have a couple different looks to switch it up if it isn't working but I usually start with the natural looking ones first.
