Bullying vs AntiBully

personally i feel like "bullies" have gotten a lot of blame recently. I think it builds character to be bullied and have to defend yourself. kids are pussies these days. For Example, take that Amanda chick who drank bleach, only reason people made fun of her was she was a dumb slut. What do you people think about bullying?

I'm not conflating them, in fact i specifically distinguished the two. I'm saying that if you're going to argue that bullying, and subsequently harassment, are good because they "toughen you up," then doesn't it logically follow that abuse is even better because it toughens you up even more?

Ergo, abuse is a proper subset of bullying, and bullying contains the realm of abuse. This is a reductio ad absurdum argument.

For example, "Taking vitamins is good for you, so you should mainline all the vitamins you can by logical extension."

Your logic is not logic, it is hyperbole and disregards the limits imposed by common sense and rational thought. Then you go on to make the point that we must either have no bullying, or take it to an extreme in the form of abuse. This is a false dilemma.

The rest of us are proof.

Well that's the problem, isn't it? How do we determine what the "correct" amount of bullying is? People aren't all homogeneously tough. There isn't a certain level of verbal abuse all humans are capable of taking before it starts legitimately destroying their self-esteem. To say that someone who is more sensitive to bullying is just a "pussy" who has to "suck it up" is ridiculous. They feel the way they feel, they can't just "suck it up" and ignore the things being said to them if they happen to be wired in a way that makes it impossible for them to ignore it. Some kids can handle bullying, some kids can't, that doesn't mean we should go around putting the fault on the kids who can't handle bullying, we should put it on the bullies, or the parents, or anybody else.

Please show me the studies that show a lack of bullying is directly correlated to less suicides in kids. That would be the crux of a solid argument for what you're advocating.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find any, and the percentages of suicides in preteens and teens.

As far as I can tell, there was actually a 28% DECLINE in suicides from 1990 - 2003, followed by an 8% increase up to 2007.

Would you say there was a lack of bullying between 1990-2003 that led to this decline?

I hope we can agree that contemplating suicide isn't a sign of someone who is well-adjusted.
