Everytime I see OP's icon I think the same thing. Although I enjoyed the movie, Chris Mcandless is a fucking dumbass. A huge piece of shit. A spoiled little brat who got in over his head.

By the way he didn't get poisoned by what he was eating the autopsy showed no signs of poisoning he starved to death, he just couldn't gather a sufficient amount of food and got too weak. Not to mention had he walked a mile up river when he realized his path was obstructed by the river he would have found a hand trolley. It was literally a mile away. a 15 minute walk away and he would've been fine. He is a dumbass. Alaskans fucking hate that guy.

I read Into the Wild a few months after my cousin's passing. My cousin, like McCandless, was young, brilliant, searching for something more to life, and on a path to self-destruction. Like McCandless, he isolated himself from those who loved him most. His delusions (and dreams), led to choices that ultimately took his life. Rather than idolize McCandless, one can learn from his mistakes that led to a slow and lonely death , and the revelation found in op's sig. However, one can also evaluate the redeeming qualities of McCandless's character, along with the selfish. Life is not black and white. McCandless isn' t a hero, but he isn't just a "dumb spoiled rich kid". I've always wondered if things might have ended differently had my cousin read Krakauer's book.

well im not that smart but even i can see that mcandless is a selfish, spoiled brat who took love for granted and deeply hurt his family. I think that some of the stuff he did was good but somebody who hates society so deeply is NOT someone who should be idolized. granted the book was very well written, but the movie was bad and only changed my opinions of him for the worse.
