look i hate these people and i think everything they say is bullshit and fucking horrible, but i dont get how someone religious can argue with them. they seem to just follow the bible word for word and its easy to disagree with them from an atheist standpoint (why fucking follow a book written thousands of years ago) but can someone religious post a reasonable argument for why their interpretation of the bible should be followed rather than the westboro baptists?

Or you could just stop arguing about if god exists or not, since thats a question that noone will ever be able to answer. You cant find a good argument for the existence (also nothing that rules out the existence though).Just let everyone believe what they wont to and there wont be any problems about stuff like this, as long as the people keep what they are believing to themselves and dont try to convince others of it.

Time doesn't exist without an observer. As far as YOU can tell you're the only thing in the universe with the ability to break a superposition so with out you there is no need for time, everything would just exist as a probability

I think thats more what he was getting at. Time can be both a dimension and dependent on your observation, just like space.

It's no more plausible that a magical man simple willed reality to be so than to imagine it simply being something else before it was what we know it as now.

Fuck, for all we know this entire universe could be in a pile of shit, and our galaxy is but one molecule in a greater compound.

Something doesn't come from nothing. It had to be something before "this". That being said, we simply don't know. It's easier for human beings to just write off the massive implications of the universe, it's laws and boundaries and the possiblities beyond out knowledge- and just say "God did it". lol... I mean, if that isn't the biggest copout of all time I don't know what is, and it's more of a hinderance to the advancement of the human race than possibly anything else. Think about it- stem cell research being shot down, human equality issues and instances of denial such as Galileo's plight continue to tell me that religion isn't the answer to man's questions- it's the absence of one- an admission that you don't know and feel such knowledge is beyond your realm.

And for that I say religious people- you're entitled to believe whatever you want, but if it hinders this country's ability to advance itself and learn, then you need to just fuck off back to your hole and let the go-getters go and get. Mmmkay? You want to limit your own scope of relevancy, fine. Don't force everyone else to be dumber simply because it makes you uncomfortable to ask yourself certain questions.

I feel that there is a fundamental flaw in your observation.

Time exists as a mathematical equation. A constant. Time itself is perceived differently by all- each observer experiences that same mathematical quantity in a different way. i.e.- the 12yo feels that it is FOREVER between birthdays and that each day is forever while the 80yo man feels like he just turned 75 a short time ago and the days just tick by so fast.


I feel that time itself is always the same and that we are the variable within it creating the probability you speak of. The mathematical progression of time and all it's functions remain constant whether an observer is "watching" or not.

Organized large scale religion was invented as a way to calm and control the masses. You're not going to challenge the pharaoh if he is a god, you're not going to question the emperor if it results in the worst possible afterlife, and you're not going to question moral and ethical wrong doings if the pope says not to.

Religion may have started as the simplest answer to phenomenon that was unexplainable, but we have moved on from that. Early jews (the old testament) thought the sky was a dome that god filled with water. Why? It was blue, and water fell out of it sometimes. We know better than that.

But now it has progressed pass that as a social and political tool. If people could practice religion in peace without forcing onto others, i would be happy. But instead people preach a logically retarded set of ideas, and even try to get the government to continue pushing their outdated philosophies (gay marriage, used to be slavery, interracial marriage, women's rights as a whole) onto everyone, even those who don't follow their religion.

The Middle East and Africa are worse about this than the US, but we still love to push christian ideals onto non-christians.

That's a pretty interesting theory. You might be on to something.

I have always been confused about the WBC. So they hate gay people and hate America for enabling gay people. So basically they hate everyone.

For those of you who say the WBC follow the bible literally, please find me a passage in the bible where it says "God hates Fags", or "God hates" anything for that matter. I personally feel like the more you hate, the farther away from God you are. God doesn't even hate you for hating, but your relationship with God isn't going to be great if you are full of hate. So as hideous as WBC is, I win if I can somehow not hate them. I can honestly say that I haven't figured out how to not hate them yet.

It's pretty tough to not hate people who protest at the funerals of soldiers killed in action. These servicemen and women died defending the right of Americans to peacefully protest whatever they want, and the WBC repays them by protesting at their funerals. I agree with you that some of the WBC followers are just trolling; some are just paste eating morons.

Yes. Totally logical! If we can't to a 't' describe how the universe came into being, well, God! Literally the most pathetic and lazy explanation and argument for the existence of god possible. It's so cliche and slovenly that it has a name: God of the gaps. As in, Any and all natural phenomena currently outside of our understanding = God. That's been the case for centuries. Unfortunately for you, as we learn more, God literally shrinks.

Read what you wrote. "I, a teenaged moron, can't explain the genesis of existence, so it has to be mystical and magical. It's logic!"

No, you have "accurate" and "debateable" confused.

You can no more prove that there is a magical genie man floating around in space than he can prove that time and space did not exist before the Big Bang.

They are both theories and while they stand unproven there can be no accuracy, only plausibility. Understand now? There can be no measure of accuracy until there are proven facts by which to compare and score said accuracy.

Organized religion is a way to keep the people in check. Religion helps the simple minded come up with all the answers that we'll never know. Religion explains death, birth, how we got here, why we're here, what to do, what not to do, etc. So some religions work for some, some work for others. I prefer to figure out the answers to these questions myself.

and the Westboro church is growing the more you spread the seed by talking about them. Damn now I spread the seed too, fuckkk


oh yeah and the bible being 1000s of years old... don't believe everything you are told

Patently false. Time is not an equation, and neither is it a constant. It is a 3+1 dimensional manifold, or more explicitly, a pseudo-Riemannian real vector space equipped with a symmetric, nondegenerate bilinear form (+,-,-,-) or (-,+,+,+). Equivalently, each minkowski space (basically what was stated above) has an associated affine projective representation, but that's a bit beyond me.

TL;DR math words, time has a very explicit, well thought out construction with a very specific context and properties. It is not just like, this thing, man.

Some people are seriously affected by the church and its positions. You might not perceive it, since you are a part of the church, but, for instance, homophobia, transphobia, abstinence education and gender essentialism (women should be barefoot, domestic baby machines and men should be manly etc.) are products of the society built around the church or directly of the church's positions themselves.


You have a right to believe whatever you want to believe, but what you believe has real consequences when it becomes organized and powerful. You take a very privileged and naive position.
