Im gonna be whippin swim baits this year as well for the first time. Just gonna use my smaller musky rod/reel.
Also made a decent sized purchase during the TW 25 day sale thing they had goin on
Well to be fair it's a glass composite rod but yes, I'm pretty stoked to use it a lot this year. I will only be going up to certain 1oz baits with my cranking rod though for swimmers. Too scared to tie on the nice ones so I'll leave those to the heavy rod, braid and probably a 25lb FC leader.
I'm actually really stoked on swimbaits. Had some success with them at the end of last season and I love how specific you can get with them. They seem to be more of an extension of finesse fishing- just in massive size. You can be incredibly playful with some of the baits while others you have to wield with more power and tension... It's fun to wrap my mind around.
Especially now when you can have a suspending swimbait with a crank bill, wakes, glide baits that do freakin' 360s, floaters, divers, sinkers and dying baits etc... I mean the options are endless and you can help weed out the dinks and pickerel simply by chucking bigger stuff most times.
That and jerkbaits. I don't throw hard jerkbaits nearly enough and they are awesome producers.

Mone is glass composite as well, but you can still feel/see that it has a more parabolic bend and loads up way better.
Im stoked to try some swim baits post spawn when the males are still guarding the fry up shallow. Also think it will be a good option for suspended fish out deep in the summer months. I feel like no one around here uses em so itll be something the fish have never seen before
soulskierMust have been nice to know how to ice fish for bass, haha
I caught a perch!
hey perch are fun too it's better than getting skunked!! I might enter first ice fishing derby this weekend just with a few people, hopefully i can win some money this year!

Yeah definitely same. Swimbaits are pretty much the newest emerging trend so to speak so I think we are ahead of the curve in our interest. It's definitely a look the fish around here haven't seen before. The miniturization of the supercali style 10"+ megabaits and such has been fun to follow. It seems like all the big fishermen around here just want to work along open banks, stare at a screen or drop shot some blip on the radar so to be able to cover wide swaths of grass or weed plateau/channel with a big bait like that is huge, given you can get specific with it and capitalize on what's happening in the water.
Last year my big obsession was frogs. Before that was light finesse. Now it's definitely smaller swimmers and suspending jerks- things like that. Hard baits mostly but ones that behave very specifically. Mostly stuff I can pause and either suspend or that will float/sink slowly, but each has their own reason for being in the tray.
Might have to revive the "show us your box" thread just so I can fully gear vent. I've made a lot of sweet acquisitions since I've posted in there.
Bought an abu garcia revo winch off ebay for $125. 5.4:1 gear ratio for cranking. There are some crazy good deals to be found on ebay for fishing gear right now
I'll tell you what... I will be sad to see the snow melt but I have never looked forward to a fishing season like I am for this coming summer.
I honestly dont don't even know what I'll throw first. So much awesome gear! Also the boat game will be infinitely tighter, as my buddy who inherited a sweet decked out 90s Lund had agreed to let me put Quabbin seal tags on it and use it whenever. That's huge because I can hit anything else in my kayak- and I've got a big fat list of prospect spots to scout in the spring.
Who else is is stoked for some open water and bucket mouths?

I leave for jacksoN hole today, but after that i want winter to be over so badly. Im signing up for tournaments, ive got a list of all the gear i need so i know what to budget for. Im with you, im more excited for this summer than any other.
And if you want to raise the stoke even more, bassmaster classic starts today and you can watch it live for the first time ever on bassmaster.com
Yeah I've got a pretty specific laid-out plan so far. Can't wait to have all my ducks in a row, my box is looking pretty sick atm. Only a few pieces left!
Scored a FUCKING INSANE deal on an Ito Engineering Megabass/Daiwa Alphas 103 Ai last night on Ebay and I simply have to stoke vent before I explode.
So yeah. The NRX will have a new dance partner and it will be no problem to get my money back by selling the Curado 51E it's replacing. That's a free upgrade in my book! I just need carbontex washers for the drag and she will be good to go. I can't wait to toss a weightless pit boss right onto the surface of the moon, shit's gonna be fkn tighter than a virgin in church on Xmas, maaaaaaaaan.
So fucking stoked right now. MN finally got their shit together and added a catch and release season for bass a month before the actual season starts. ILL FINALLY BE ABLE TO FISH PRESPAWN AND SPAWN!!!!
My dad an hour ago. I'm not even going to say the weight because that'll take away the fucking epicness of the bass. Easy over 7 is all i'll say, was weighed on a really nice scale that some guys had when they ran over becuase they heard us yelling so loud. fuck man!!!! my dad went ham!!!
Huck_NorrisLololololololol that's awesome. I'll buy that Giron if you don't want it tho don't return it.
im only returning the reel and the ABT glide bait. well actually i caught them before they shipped it and they took em off my order. All the other stuff ive had on my want list for a while... just didnt expect to buy it all at once lol
big haul from TW, i actually remember ordering it this time haha. and i guess the 7/0 jigs i got still arent big enough for the berkley slim shads.... holy fuck those things are bigger than i though
.frenchyfuck yeah buddd!!! Lucky motherfcuker to be froggin.... lakes here just froze i got another 1.5-2months
been slayin trout every day tho on ultra lights so thats fun
thanks dude! the stoke level was real high with this one, thats crazy your still frozen though. pretty much summer here in cali but its been getting down to the low 40's at night making the fish move super slow. iv been going for trout lately to but finally started bass fishing again this week and its been awesome!
caught my first tiger trout a few weeks ago camping, might be my new favorite looking fish! and it tasted amazing haha
While shopping at Cabelas, I picked up a fly box and some new flies. I put all the flies in the fly box instead of carrying 10 of the things around in my hand
Completely spaced at checkout and didn't pay for the flies (+ or - $20)
It's pretty much a no brainer to return them but I don't want to see the employee get in trouble for letting merchandise walk out the door

i like the honesty, but i would say that you got away with it this time. cabelas will live without the $20

does it say the name of the cashier on your receipt? if not youre good to return it and the employee wont get in trouble. But if you really feel bad about it and want to return it just make sure you talk to a manager and really drive home that its not the employees fault and all the blame rests on you. or maybe you'll luck out and that same employee will be working if you remember them

Pretty rare for sure, at least here in PA. I know they stocked them for a time here but from what I've read they are hard to raise and the game commission gave up stocking them, some private clubs still do. From what I'm told, catching a legit wild one is like winning the lottery.
Definitely a gorgeous fish and in my 34 years I've never caught one.
