Well here we go again. The season begins August 18th, but there's still plenty going on in the meantime!


Transfer season is in full swing, with various sources reporting everything under the sun with absolutely no basis.

And seemingly every team is going on tour of somewhere, because evidently teams like Norwich need to bolster their support in places like southern California and Malaysia.


Will Manchester United keep the title?
Will Manchester City not be a mess?
Will Chelsea's Jose Mourinho get himself sacked by Christmas?
Will Arsenal be stuck waiting another season to win a trophy?
Will Tottenham finally get a champions league spot?

Here's to a hopefully entertaining season with plenty of great action leading up the BRAZIL 2014!

poor display in the second half for Chelsea. the eto substitution was far to early in my book and it cost us. well done to Madrid though they played better then us. best of luck to them in the final.

well i suppose that was pretty good run for a transitional season. Hopefully chelsea can get a good striker over the summer. Diego costa honestly doesn't look very menacing.

Whenever I think of Mourinho, I run the Gladiator scene where Russel Crowe says "Are you not entertained" but superimpose Mourinho's face instead.

He is a character, a very polarizing figure, whether you love him or hate him, it is undeniable.

Normally I like loud, a bit cocky people but he really gets to me so seeing Atletico beat Chelsea and Mourinho gave me no greater joy. Chelsea wouldn't have stood a chance against Real anyways and with the form they are in, Ateltico might not either.

Why is it hilarious? Mourinho is the manager of Chelsea. Chelsea were one of the teams in the game. Kind of makes sense people would talk about him, no?

I was about 20 metres away from him at the Man City - Real Madrid game last year, he was more entertaining than the match.

So...... The penultimate weekend.

Liverpool: Crystal Palace, away; Newcastle, home.
Chelsea: Norwich, home; Cardiff, away.
Man City: Everton, away; Aston Villa, home; West Ham, home.



I've supported city long enough to know that we just don't win at Everton, so I think if Liverpool can get both their last games it's theirs. New Everton manager though, might be different.

I would think Hazard (and Oscar) aren't exactly 'mourinho' type players, a bit like mata. For his style of play to work, players need to be 100% committed to their defensive responsibilities. Hazard wasn't against Atletico and ultimately it probably cost Chelsea a final place, if he hadn't gone to sleep 1-0 at half time is a different game. I could see Jose letting either go for big money and replacing them.

Half time and Man U losing to sunderland, interesting.

Yup, good game by Sunderland today. And I think that Norwich will go down too. They have Chelsea and Arsenal left and I don't think that they'll win those games.

Lets be honest, soccer has turned into a game where who ever has the most money will normally win due to squad talent, unless you're Monaco.

yep its unfortunately true and it will always be that way until they introduce a salary cap world wide. but they wont.

Dortmund are a good example of a great team winning and beating rich teams before the rich teams come in the transfer window and buy there best player and with that there hopes at silverware as well

Atletico as well. Their whole starting roster against Chelsea was worth less than Torres...

yeah they have a great squad. i'll give you that. but the one thing I love about them is that they produce world class strikers.

The only striker they "produced" was Torres. None of the others went through Atletico's youth system. Though Costa, and Aguero were young enough that I suppose you could make the argument. Definitely can't say it about Forlan or Falcao, though, both were already over 25 by the time Atletico bought them.

If you ask me, producing includes "turning" them into a world class striker. You could argue that ManU had a bigger impact on CR7 than Sporting, or Arsenal turned Cesc into what he is currently.

this is what I was going for. they can spot a good striker and turn them into a world class one. aston villa had a chance to buy falco back when he was a nobody but they decided to buy heskey instead.

I honestly do not think Ronaldo would be the player he is today if it were not for his exposure to the EPL. Look at Quaresma, similar situation, but he fell WAY short.

Cesc couldnt touch the field at Barcelona as a youth player, but he went to Arsenal, and look at who he became. Hell, look at Nasri, RVP, Arsenal has a history of taking "youthful" talent and turning it into world class players. Does it matter most came at younger ages but not through youth academies? I wouldnt say so.

I think Monaco will be big, but money hasnt bought them the league...yet. There is also that Russian team Anzhi Makhachkala who were bought by a billionaire, failed spectacularly and are sitting in relegation zone now. I laughed at that.

Anzhi isn't a great comparison because they have nothing to offer for it to really take off.

Location is huge. London, Paris, or Monaco are about as good as it gets.


I don't even think most people would claim fabregas as being a Barcelona product. Fact is they left him behind, he moved on and succeeded. I think between ages 15 and 20 are probably the most important developmental years. That's when most get left behind, and the greats move on. Everyone forgets just how young he was when he was starting matches at arsenal.

Yes, a great player is a great player, but the media can also make a player "great". It is up to a coach and a system to bring it out if it is truly there, and that is what Sir Alex did. I do not doubt he would have been discovered, but I am skeptical if he would have made the same strides as he did at MU elsewhere. Imagine if he had been purchased by a club like RM or CFC, would he have been given the time to develop? Or would he have been shunned away and hidden.

Cesc moved to Arsenal at 16 but started playing with their U-21 team and senior team within a year. Under your classifications that would still make him a Barcelona product.

Nasri and RVP were not "well-known" compared to people like Neymar or Hazard today. Wenger has possibly one of the best eyes for young talent in the world. He knows how to harness their talent and make it beneficial for the team. Some of these players do succeed (RVP) and some do not (Chamakh), but it is Wenger that makes it happen. Most of these players do not come from the youth teams, but they succeed under his tutelage.

They are getting relegated now because the owner realized he wouldn't be able to get big enough players to russia so he basically put the entire team up for transfer last year. Eto’o, Lassana Diarra, Willian and Lancia Traore to name a few.

And yea, the anzhi situation was completely different. The owner completely gave up on them, and did everything possible short of selling everything to recoup his money.

With 4th place sealed I'm looking forward to seeing some new faces getting minutes for them.

I'm not, but okay.

I think cesc is partially a Barca product and partially an Arsenal one. He was young enough when he moved that he was influenced by Arsenal's youth team.

Cesc never played with the "youth" teams, he only played with u-21 and over which is the equivalent of a Barcelona "B" team. He will even say tactically he is more British than Spanish, but technically he is more Spanish.

"A lot of my style is based on that of the Premier League but with a base of La Masia," Fabregas said in reference to the famous Barcelona academy. "I have the touch, the peripheral vision, but maybe I also have a certain tendency to arrive into the penalty area more quickly, which is very British."


So if you want to say his base-skill level is Spanish, then yes, you are correct. But if you want to say tactically he is more Spanish, even he would disagree. Therefore, I think its proper to say that the influence of British style of play is what made him great, not his Spanish base. You see hundreds of kids with technical skill (again, Quaresma is a great example) but lack the tactical awareness to make it.


On another note,

Hazard to PSG for Cavani rumors, and the fact he wasnt started today makes me think his future is not necessarily in CFC colors.

True, but he was still only, what, 15 when Arsenal bought him? Still extremely young. I would argue the technique part of a player is much more important in what makes a player who they are than the tactical part.

Smooth move Mourinho. Single-handedly sent Hazard, their most promising player abroad. Good for everyone else in the BPL, I would much rather match up against Cavani than Hazard. Next he'll sell Courtois too.

Now rumors that Loic Remy is headed to Arsenal...something I said was a great fit and should have been done on page 1; but I also said I was nervous of Spurs this year. Ahahaha.
