Well here we go again. The season begins August 18th, but there's still plenty going on in the meantime!


Transfer season is in full swing, with various sources reporting everything under the sun with absolutely no basis.

And seemingly every team is going on tour of somewhere, because evidently teams like Norwich need to bolster their support in places like southern California and Malaysia.


Will Manchester United keep the title?
Will Manchester City not be a mess?
Will Chelsea's Jose Mourinho get himself sacked by Christmas?
Will Arsenal be stuck waiting another season to win a trophy?
Will Tottenham finally get a champions league spot?

Here's to a hopefully entertaining season with plenty of great action leading up the BRAZIL 2014!

Unbelievable that Chelsea lost to Sunderland today. With a result like that they absolutely do not deserve to win the league. Gives Liverpool a fantastic chance to go 5 points up against them vs Norwich tomorrow. No idea what the hell happened, but Chelsea really blew it.

And of course Mourinho comes out and blames everyone except himself and his team for the loss...classic.

They did deserve a point for their second half performance. But Liverpool, specifically Glen Johnson, made some piss poor mistakes. Cannot afford to do that against Chelsea.

Great result today for Arsenal. Podolski played fantastic and its great seeing him in such good form. Ramsey was wonderful as well and Ozil did good for his first game back. I love what Ox brings to the side, even when coming on as a late substitute. He's never afraid to attack and bring the game to the other team. Defense was a bit shaky in the first half but it was all sorted out well.

I agree with Mourinho on the officiating. I thought it was one sided, and I'm no Chelsea fan.

True. My guess is LP will not have too much trouble with Chelsea, who are likely going to focus primarily on the champions league.

My brother is a big LP fan and admits that he is most worried about the Palace game.

I am worried about that game as well. Chelsea will not openly say it, but they will focus on that CL game. Dont personally think they will win, but it should be interesting to see.

Man U have the WORST off the ball movement I have ever seen. Mata looks completely ineffective due to this. Nani is shit. Put on Janujaz and maybe something will happen.

Very much doubt they'll appoint the new full time manager much before season end, but they will want the new guy in place to make full use of the transfer window. Whoever it is, they have some serious work to do. Whole new defence and midfield needed.

You have to think United would have probably done this at least a few weeks ago if it weren't for the contract situation. Moyes had performance clauses built in to that monster 6 year deal - basically if he didn't make the CL and was eventually fired he would get a 1 year payout instead of the remainder (or until he finds another job). That's what I've read anyways, and it's lines up with their elimination from the top 4 this past weekend.

I'll be sad to see him go obviously. With United being so bad this year the title was really up for grabs and right now Liverpool are the ones benefitting from it.

Since they'll probably be getting a top manager anyways, I'd love if Louis van Gaal took over that guy is a fucking nutcase. Oh, and there were reports that he had some sort of agreement with Spurs recently, but now is interested in the United job - lol @ the Spuds.

I get why United fired Moyes, but I don't think they should have. Not yet, at least. I don't know what else they expected from this year. Did they really think with an old, mediocre at best, squad and a new manager after 26 years with the last one that they would be winning the league? Or even finishing in European positions? I figured, at best, they would manage Europa league, which they still very well could.

I knew the higher ups at United were stupid (not revamping a squad that was clearly getting old and slow three years ago), but I didn't know they had their heads this far up their asses. The fact of the matter is that United simply haven't had a particularly strong squad the last two years, and that they have fallen into mediocrity comes down just as much to that as it does to Moyes, if not more so.

I also agree with you though. They spent all summer botching transfers like Thiago, Fabregas, Gundogan and were left with nothing. Then they bought Mata in a panic when Kagawa or even Rooney can do that job. Too many old heads too who just don't cut it anymore. The board has to take some blame.

Hopefully they have a slow start to next season with it being a World Cup year.

Good result for us tonight. It means all we have to do now is win at home. Hopefully Terry and Hazard will be fit.

I'm sure they would, problem is, as you say, the EPL was extremely weak last year, and it was apparently obvious to everyone except the United board members that that same squad would likely not cut it again this year. And, lo and behold, teams like City, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Arsenal have all been better this year, and United's squad didn't cut it.

That is one of the reason's I hate the soccer tournament system. It sets up for boring ass games where only one side is playing to win. Next game should be a little more interesting, but who knows

It was unbelievably boring...

That said, I think the two-game matches can occasionally turn up unbelievably good games. Take last year, europa league last 16. Liverpool lost 2-0 away to Zenit, then conceded early in the following home leg. Over the next 70 minutes they pulled all three back, but couldn't get the fourth and went out on away goals. It was wayyyy tenser than any straight 90 minute match, possibly with the exception of the last games of the 11/12 season... (when city won)

it was a hard game to watch. its important to remember that there are two sides to football and defending is just as important as attacking. chelseas center backs had a great game. i know some chelsea fans are happy with a 0-0 but i would love to have an away goal it can make such a differences. looks like cech is out for the rest of the season so we'll have to see how chelsea cope.

Yeah I remember watching that crazy Dortmund comeback against Malaga as they scored twice in 4 minutes of stoppage time to go through. Craziest game I have watched live.

As a Madrid fan, I love his passion, but I feel much more comfortable with Varane on the field 99.9% of the time. Him, Ramos, or Marcelo are good for a RC any given day.

Agreed. Trust me, I hate him 75% of the time with his rash tackles and poor decisions, but he sometimes brings an enforcer mentality that can be beneficial when players like Modric, Isco, Ronaldo, etc. are getting hammered by opponents.

But like I said before, I prefer Varane over him.

Seriously? Even as a Madrid fan you should be able to figure out why people hate him. I'll help you: he is the most vile soccer player, and probably athlete, on the planet. No one comes close to being as much of a cheat as he is. Only player I've ever seen get fouled, roll on the ground in fake agony, then literally kick a teammate away so he could keep rolling around, then stand up 5 seconds later, completely fine.

No, I had a feeling why, but some players single out his play-acting, his dirty fouls, his rash decisions, or his sneaky fouls that aim to hurt. I was not sure if it was one or all of the above.

I would place quite a few others up there in terms of his poor decision making. Mainly other Latin-American/Southern European players. Except Joey Barton. But Gary Medel is up there for me.

But in terms of play acting, he is nothing compared to Neymar. I cant stand him for that reason alone.

True, Marcelo and Ramos, like you said, are also definitely up there for poor decision making. I'd say Pepe, Ramos, and Marcelo are all top 10 in the world in terms of making poor decisions. At the very least top 20.

And the fact that Pepe, as a defender, dives so frequently makes him worse than anyone for me. At least for a player like Neymar, his team can potentially gain advantage from diving in and around the 18 with penalty kicks and free kicks. Pepe does it in his own half, earning his team a free kick from a useless position when it works, and a break way for the other team when it doesn't.

I wont argue with that, but I will take Ramos over most other CB/RBs out there. Most teams would. Marcelo, well, he is still a pain in the butt but I do enjoy his attacking prowess.

The first being tactically more important, the second being physically important. This first advantage was obviously getting the ball, and against a team like Bayern, that is extremely important. Secondly, it gave the defense a rest. When a team who plays the Tiki-taka style has the ball 75%+ of the time, the defense will be moving constantly. Therefore, a dive will give them a break.

Is it a good tactic? Yes. Is it deplorable? For sure. But I can understand the rational behind it. If the other team doesnt have the ball, they will not score.

It takes away from the spirit of the game. Which is why it is horseshit.

These guys rarely get seriously fucked up. If they were not all twigs they could take 99% of all physical play. Rub some dirt in it and play on. It would also help football/soccer not be a joke to rugby/Hockey/American Football fans.

I mean I get that, it just still seems worse than diving in an attacking area where your team will get something more than just a rest or the ball in a non-threatening position out of it. And most of Pepe's diving comes against teams in La Liga who Real are already beating, so rarely does it seem like it's a strategic thing for him.
