Chicago gets the lockout cup for the summer. Lets start next season off, and hope somebody fucking new wins it, damnit. Summer transactions are up soon, so this should get started fast.
kind of hoping for a franzen buyout, he is just getting way too fucking slow nowadays. in hindsight, it was a decent season. got the 8th seed with a bullet riddled roster. definitely showed a lot of those griffins players what it takes to hang in the NHL post-season, now they're gonna go off and win another calder hopefully. all this potential in the coming years, they get this team figured out and its gonna be a powerhouse.
in the meantime, tons of great hockey to watch. an 18 year old scoring an OT playoff goal, thats pretty damn cool.

I never said the hawks calls were bad calls.... just that stl was getting away with a lot the first half of the game.... hence call it both ways.

it's playoff hockey man, in every single series... hell, in every single game so far there have been missed calls and there have been soft calls. This series especially has seen tons of calls go both ways that really were questionable, and that stastny offside is the biggest grey area in the rulebook ever. Technically, his skate is still behind the line so it's not offside, BUT his blade was off the ice so technically it COULD be offside. But if you read the actual NHL rule for offside, it translates to no call being the right call. And in a split second, you can't blame the liney for missing that one it was way too close to call with so little time left
It's a seven game series, it all evens out over the course of the series and the better team wins. I've never seen refs literally snatch a playoff series away from any one team. Regular season, sure, a ref can decide a game. But refs will NOT cost a team a playoff series, it just doesn't happen

Watched the vid a ton and CLEARLY offsides. What are you gonna do, NHL refs miss calls all the time, it's just part of the game. They can't be perfect...

The main thing on that picture is that they need the frame from a split second earlier when the puck crossed the leading edge of the blue line. Also, whether you need your skate on the ice isn't clear from the rules ( I think you're right) but that's how they call it usually.

I'll admit, the offsides it nitpicking a bit b/c it was so close.
For offsides, when one skate is on the ice, that is the skate that "counts" towards offsides regardless of body position. So in the case of that picture, it's offsides. This is why guys straddle the line with both feet on the ice. The foot in the neutral zone is keeping them onside.
I'm just bitter over that how that goal came to be. At the end of the day, CO has a damn good 6 on 5 and we should've played better D on Parenteau flying in from the blue line. That shit is inexcusable

There is a lot of talk about what day the series could start. Could be as early as Thursday night, more likely Friday night but the Garden is already booked with Northeastern graduation so the time frame wouldn't really work. HNIC wants a saturday night game because obviously MTL is the only remaining Canada team so they want max viewership. A thurs/fri game would screw up games 3 & 4 at the belle center because they have a bunch of concerts or something scheduled in the beginning of the week. I'm pulling for a Saturday night game

We may have lost to Montreal more in the reg. season but we have them beat in so many ways. We have them beat in wins, losses, points, gf, and ga. You're gonna be hard pressed to see Montreal take this series. Our offense is too potent right now, we outscored Detroit 14-6, and aside from game 1 averaged 3.5 goals a game. I know Montreal swept Tampa but they are going to have to play even better to have a chance to beat the B's right now...

We've completely dominated you guys the past 2 seasons, i'm not saying this is going to be a montreal win in 4 or 5 games... I can see a game 7 OT again... Like the olympics this year where he had a 5-0 record, a 0.59 goals-against average and .972 save percentage, he allowed three goals on 106 shots.
inb4 epic series. both teams are on a roll so it should make for a great series with the winner of this series probably going to the Cup IMO

Yeah i wouldnt be surprised if the flyers send it back to msg. but i just feel like theres no way the rangers are losing this series at this point (knock on wood). i just cant see lundqvist allowing it. in the past in game 6s and 7s hes just straight up put the team on his back and willed them to the next round.
losing grossman hurts the flyers for sure especially when youre replacing him with hal frickin gil. although i will say that goal was not entirely his fault. that pass was dreadful.

i completely agree with people over rating price's olympic performance. he didnt face a lot of shots and he didnt face a lot super high quality scoring chances because canada's defense was absolutely insane. duncan keith wasnt even on their top d pair... thats just unfair.
that being said price is still a really good goalie and i hope to god he plays out of his mind and montreal wins the series.

as a dude who played goalie for 15 years of my life id like to think i know a little about it. and as a rangers fan and somewhat neutral person in this argument (although i absolutely despise of the bruins) my opinion is that Rask is the better goalie. he has a stronger and more consistent body of work throughout his career.
sure price was thrust into a starting role much earlier than rask and boston has been a better team and had better defenses then montreal has had during their careers. but at a certain point the argument that price is better because boston has a better d core is silly. are you gonna argue that marty brodeur isnt one of the greatest goalies ever because he had a really solid d core for most of his career? yes it helps. but it doesnt help to the degree that the absolutely insanely ridiculous d core of the canadian national team helped price in the olympics (for christsake subban was their 7th defensemen). comparing the boston d to the d of team canada is just dumb.
imo rask has the most solid all around game of any goalie in the nhl right now. i dont think he is necessarily THE best goalie in the league but he's certainly top 3.
sooooo much of goal tending is mental. look at marc-andre fleury. that dude is a good goalie, but man when he gets rattled thats it, pens are boned. even though they have (and have had) a good defensive core (for the most part) since he's been the starting goalie. i feel like from what ive seen of rask that in addition to having the physical skill to be one of the best goalies in the league he also is one of the most difficult to rattle.
price is a very very good goalie. and he had a great year. probably the best or second best year of his career. could he play awesome and steal the series? youre damn straight. is he one of the best three goalies in the league. i dont think so. i dont think so. not based on his body of work. he has been great but hes also at times been ordinary.
