I feel like the league is trying to say that they will not accept him playing this way anymore. It is his 6th suspension, on top of three other times being fined. He is a player that has shown a history of playing dangerously, and the he will only continue to play this way unless he is punished to the point of second guessing the way he plays. While for this specific instance, seven games may be a bit severe, i feel it was the right call by the NHL.

I'm so on the CBJ train, that crowd last night was awesome. Anyone who has seen a pens game before KNEW that they were going to lose in OT most likely due to a fluery softie...

Each game in that series a team has had a 2 goal lead only to end up losing

He doesn't make the timely save though. Obviously it isn't all flowers fault, like the foligno goal there was just no defense on that shot. Pens defender let him stroll right over blue line and rip one...the defender probably screened him a good amount to boot

That game tying goal was 110% his fault though, you DO NOT leave your crease when there are that many bodies in the attacking zone. Not only did he make hte wrong decision by not just sitting in his crease with under a minute, he played the puck wrong as well

So while it's not all his fault, and he's made plenty of important saves in earlier situations, when push comes to shove he is more prone to crack than to stand tall

Some great games last night. What a collapse by the Ducks. 4 unanswered goals. tsk tsk. Good on CBJ for that epic win.

If they B's play like they did their last two games I am certain we'll win again tonight. Stoke factor is high.

Yup. To JD's and your point the Pens big stars have once again done jack shit. Malkin and crosby have been invisible - same shit as last year when the b's absolutely demolished them in four games. Unfortunately for flower a large amount of that spotlight gets focused on him when other members of his team are playing just as poor

if you ask me it should have been longer. and of course he got extra games added on of being cooke, he has a history of throwing cheap shots and injuring players, the league is trying to send a message.

you are correct. guess i shouldnt take my buddies word for stats without checking them.

with the way the broadcasts are staggered it is literally impossible to watch every game. so youre right i havent watched a ton of the pens jackets series, other than from third period on.

crosby may have 4 points but he is still a minus 3. i know plus minus is flawed but it sure as shit aint good to get scored on when your best players are on the ice

If you listened to the clip you would realize they prefaced their rant multiple times with - we can't look past detroit.

I hate Mazz the little whiny one but usually felger isn't that bad when it comes to hockey. Also if you listened to the whole that show he completely shit on marchand for being a pussy diver as well. Felger is not from boston, he loves to shit on local teams around here. In fact its kind of his whole shtick

I think arguing suspension length for the hits is pointless....its whats wrong with hockey, that you can justify trying to intentionally hurt someone with a measly 7 game suspension.

If the league really wanted to send a message, you'd suspended him for at least 30 games

You want to end fighting, you suspended who ever was in the fight for 30 or more games. Shit even a half season. Hell make the suspension be you are out as long as the player you injured is out for.

I love hockey, I love talking about it watching it and playing it, but the NHL can not say they are doing anything to make the game safer with these measly fines and suspensions.



That being said, Game 4 between Wild and Avs tonight. Lets go Wild!

interesting stat. last years playoffs only had about 8 comebacks through all four rounds. bobby mac on tsn said they tied that record already in the first round indicating this is probably the best playoff hockey we've seen yet. definitely agree with him on that.

They needed to keep up that pace they had in the 1st all the way for 60 minutes if they wanted to win that game. They were skating way better than the bruins, avoiding the physicality that wore them down in game 2 and 3 and had great offensive zone presence. Claude must have said something during intermission because the tide turned in the 2nd...

It was awesome to see zetterberg out there playin like a champ, you could see him struggling even on that near breakaway he had he just couldnt press any harder

How fucking annoying was the stick grabbing by detroit? It must have been something they mentioned in the locker room before the game cause everyone was doing it and they were able to draw a penalty on miller for roughing because of it.

Helm must be one of the fastest guys in the league..fuckin wheels on that kid

Tuuk doesn't have an amazing game this is a tie series

I had my doubts after game 2, but they've played so well the last two games. Holding them to 12 shots all game, only 3 shots first period.

I feel like their lone goal was the case of catching kuemper sleeping, should've never gone in.

The only part of CO's game that still makes me nervous is the speed in which they score. We could be dominating the whole game and all it takes is one CO rush and boom, goal. We make it way too easy for them to score like that

Rask made some absurd saves, I really wish detroit had a solid starter, Jimmy is good, but he was waaaay better last year, and he shows flashes of inconsistency a little bit too often. I was a impressed with how gustavsson was playing in net. Not too bad for his first playoff game, thats for sure. the team definitely looked better with another veteran back. if boston takes the series saturday, you guys have my full support in winning the cup.

Are you insinuating that Seabrooks Shot-to-head of SLB's Backus, that resulted in a major "Charging" penalty, IS a "Hockey play"? Clearly Backus has a head injury.

My problem is this. A high blow-to-the-head is every bit as dangerous, more so in fact, than kneeing, yet the level of discipline does not reflect that. Seabrook's 3 compared to Cooke's 7 game suspension, the 2nd highest in NHL history for kneeing. I realize his reputation played a role in this decision, but still the inconsistency's are frustrating and dangerous. I have no tolerance for players throwing illegal hits to the head or back. The result can be life changing.

It's also maddening when Bickell delivered a nearly identical knee-to-knee blow to Vladimir Sobotka as Cooke did to Barrie, yet received no discipline? The difference, Vladimir wasn't injured. Guess it doesn't count unless the guy limps off. That's the message the NHL is sending.

BTW, I'm not just a homer. I was disgusted and embarassed when the Wild's Mike Rupp drove an illegal check to the head of SLB's TJ Oshie. This resulted in a 4 game suspension. Couldn've been more imo!
