Holmgren sucks. Like, you just got rid of Briere and now you replace him with this? It's better value at 4.5M but you didn't need him. You have a #1C and a bunch of young guys coming up, Couturier has to be asked to fill that role.
Meanwhile the team has one of the worst blue lines in the NHL and literally has no starting goalie, and no cap space, with Giroux coming RFA next season. What a mess. Maybe they'll try signing Tim Thomas, I don't see what the other options are.
You know what would've made sense? Trading Couturier for Corey Schneider.
Fuck you, that's what it would take. Seriously, I am so sick of Canadian teams picking some garbage player with minimal value and trying to insert him into every trade proposal. Flames fans have been doing it with Bouwmeester for years, Canucks fans did it with Ballard and now Booth, Oiler fans do it with Horcoff, Leaf fans do it with half their roster but right now Grabovski. No one wants your spare garbage.
David Desharnais is not a useful player. He's a centre who's not even in the same conversation as Sedin and Kesler, and he's not suited to playing a 3rd line role - where we currently have Jordan Schroeder who's just as good. Basically, how about you trade us PK Subban for Kevin Bieksa and Jordan Schroeder? That's seriously what you just proposed.
The Canucks shouldn't trade Edler at all. He has all the tools to be a #1 defenseman in the league - he can hit:
He can shoot:
And he can skate.
He is an excellent power play quarterback. On the Canucks power play, the Sedins average the most points, followed by Edler. He isn't just a shoot first guy, he has fantastic vision.
All in all, he's making $5 million per year for the next 5 years, and is worth at least $6. He's massively underpaid and in the current market you cannot get top pairing defensemen, much less for BELOW fair market value. Like I say, he's too valuable to trade, and unless they got back something totally ridiculous like Galchenyuk plus Tinordi plus a first rounder, I would be PISSED about a trade.
Looks like it's a moot point. Thank Christ for that.
I bet he gets exactly 5.
Utterly embarrassing: 45 members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association voted for Ovechkin as the league's all-star LEFT WINGER this year, despite the fact that he played right wing. As a result, Ovechkin gets named to the all star team TWICE, once as a left wing and once as a right wing. Thankfully, Taylor Hall (who was behind Ovechkin in the LW voting) made his bonus in the final game of the season by getting two assists, or this epic fuck-up would have cost him over a million dollars.
Ladies and gentlemen, your 2012-2013 DOUBLE all-star!
Sigh... my favourite hockey gif ever.
To Stars: Seguin plus Peverley plus prospect
To Bruins: Eriksson plus Matt Fraser and Reilly Smith, plus good prospect in Joe Morrow.
I really like this for the stars. Playing Benn with Seguin and Nichuskin sounds pretty fun. Peverley is still a useful player. I don't hate the deal for Boston because it gives them some cap flexibility but I think the Stars win it from an asset perspective.
