Chicago gets the lockout cup for the summer. Lets start next season off, and hope somebody fucking new wins it, damnit. Summer transactions are up soon, so this should get started fast.

as a rangers fan i can totally see why you would rather play the pens. i feel like the rangers have sort of had the flyers number for the last couple years. itd sure be a fun series though
well the leafs are out. im glad. now they can actually stop pretending theyre good and make some fucking changes.
and good for detroit. thats just a winning organization that will not accept failure, no matter who is in.

and i think jamie benn is going to single handedly will the stars into the playoffs. that guy is a true captain, and a true hockey player. he does it all and has so much heart. he'd be my MVP. i can't think of a single player that is more valuable to their team. without crosby, the penguins are still dynamite. most other teams you can name have several stars that come to mind. i think jamie benn has made an already outstanding tyler seguin even better and like i said is going to will his team into thy playoffs like a true leader should. team's on his back and it's going to happen.

Jamie's from my hometown /claim, went to high school a few years after he graduated, some of my coworkers used to be really good friends with him and would invite him to play everyday in their backyard barn/rink. They say he's a dick now, but he's one of the best in the world, a captain, scored the game winner in the US game, so I don't think it matters.
But I'm stoked for playoffs this year, going to be a gong show with all these heavy duty teams stepping up. Blues made big trades on the deadline ramping up for a legit run this year not like in previous years we're their top of the league and then choke, especially few years ago when they got swept by Van.
Speaking of Van, Gillis is gone. Good move by the Canucks, sucks they didn't make post season though.

does anyone else feel like phanuef's not really good at the captain role? from what ive seen this season, he just doesn't seem like he's up to the challenge, not much leadership from what ive seen, and they have to deal with that for 7 more years.

At this moment I don't know if there is any person that fits a good leadership role on their roster. No one has experience or exceptional leadership so it could go to a few players besides Phaneuf but they too would be in the same boat as not filling out the role. It's basically like the Caps were between Adam Oates and Ovi now, they had no solid captain just some guys who filled the position to the best of their abilities. Or when Lou was the Canucks captain. I don't think the Leaf's need to go out looking for an experienced person that could fill the hole they just need to figure their shit out with the team they have now, they have the player skill, and the experience, confidence, and leadership spot will be filled in time naturally because of progress.

He's not that good at the whole hockey player role, definitely not as good as he gets credit for. Pretty sure he gets voted as the most overrated by the players every year.

They might have been at long odds to beat tampa before last night but if bishop doesn't play MTL can definitely beat the lightning and then meet the bruins in the second round where who knows what the fuck can happen.

I have no problem believing they can get by any team in the east given their depth, goal tending and 5v5 play but there is just something about the MTL match up that is so emotional and unquantifiable. They just do not matchup well against the bruins, and that's not even factoring in how MTL players get inside the heads of b's players. Even after last game a veteran quiet player admitted he absolutely hates the habs and the way they play - you saw him lose his cool against subban last game and take a dumb penalty. I just don't see MTL being an easy out

Never a doubt we were going to the post season though actually. We may not always go deep but more times than not we usually make it to the playoffs. Saw the stat last night, it's something like 30 some times in 40 some years or so. Not bad.
Depth, we have it. 7 twenty goal scorers spread across all four lines, only team in the NHL that can say that. That's something I guess. Still worried about facing Lundqvist though.

Oh yeah I agree, but it goes to show that even if teams can dominate for 2 periods of a game, they can still lose. Montreal/Boston WILL go to 6 or 7 games if they end up playing each other, that is just a fact haha.

I am SO EXCITED for the COL/CHI series. It's going to be such a good match, COL has had such a good season and CHI is gonna have their power players back and both teams are super strong.

The west is going to be tough, can't wait to see how it plays out.

No doubt hockey is a sport above skiing for me, skiings more like a hobby a damn fun one at that. But the amount of precision, mental and physical strength and speed makes it so much more competitive and fun. There isn't another sport out there as rough and hard and as fast, sure football is rough but not nearly as fast and confined.
I play both hockey and lacrosse (hockey more seriously) and hockey is quicker and harder on the body just because the speed of the players on skates is faster. Hockey also plays on a much smaller space so there's less room to avoid body contact.

bruins were playing without their top two points leaders krecji and iginla, lucic was playing on the third line for most of the night, kelly was done after one period, krug was actually playing as a forward and shawn thornton was on actually on the power play unit haha and it still took the wild shootouts to get a win. Not saying the wild didn't play well, but if you think that was a 'solid' team your greatly mistaken and they're gonna have to play a hellllll of a lot better to do anything in the west
